Given how many posts regarding sound type issues/questions, I think it would be a positive step to create a sound only forum where allisssues could be discussed--capturing, editing, mastering, conversions etc. We could also have a sound card section where people post pros, cons, reviews, best price etc.

Given that we are all trying to create high quality encodes, having good video is only half of it. My recent experiences have shown me that i dont have as much sound knowledge as I would like and the answers to these questions are scattered like buckshot all over the boards.

What does everyone think? Moderators--feasible or not?

I agree! Silent movies can be fun, but not when there's supposed to be sound.

Sound is probably the most overlooked aspect of backups. There is a distinct difference between a 384 kbps AC5.1 audio stream and a 128 kbps MP3 audio stream.

My personal pet peeve is lumping together 2 channel Dolby surround(2 channel mux) with a 5.1 (6 channel) stream. I guess I jsut have an old (more than 4 years) stereo system :P But really, do you know the difference between AC3 and AC5.1 and AC6.1 and AC7.1 ???

I could see maybe 3 sticky posts; Standards (VCD/SVCD/DVD and then DivX/XviD audio standards), Conversions (typical conversions, say 5.1 to mp2, how to extract a 5.1 from an AVI and comvert it to mp2/3), and "Common Problems" (low audio level, chipmunk voices, unrecognized codec, plays on PC but not standalone, and the ubiquetous Out of Sync).

Maybe Out of Sync should be it's own Forum? LMFAO!!
