I was trying to capture analog video from my vcr through my ATI AIW 8500DV breakout box right in Ulead VS 6. I was dropping tons of frames.
I then tried to capture it instead using the ATI TV program and then just open up the file in Ulead. It captured with none or very few using the Tv mode. WHy would i drop frames on the exact same clip of video in one program but not on another program.
P.S. in ulead i was capturing in AVI format and in the TV mode i was capturing in mpeg2 format.

What method of compression were you using to capture the AVI ?
If none, then you are creating a very large capture file and the rate of data flow is probably too much for the hard disk to keep up with, so dropping frames is the only way to keep up.
The MPG capture is compressed so the disk can easily keep up with the flow.
Make sure that you use a fast compressor for AVI capture.
