  1. Hey, I'm working on a highlight real for my school sports. Im placing both clips captured off my digital camcorder via fire wire and clips from vhs tape into the video. Whenever i have the video cut to an analog clip it "stutters" so to say. It is very momentarily but it is noticeable.

    If any one can help me out as soon as possible, i would strongly appreciate it.

    P.S. I'm using Ulead Video Studio 6.

    Well, since no one else has offered up a suggestion... I'll throw out an idea or two.

    I don't use the same editor that you are using but I have been splicing many analog and digital clips together. The only "stuttering" effect that I have experienced was caused by some garbage that came off of the analog tapes when the the capture first started. I minimized the problem by doing one or both of the following;

    1) waiting until my camera had a good start before capturing the first frames of video onto the computer and;

    2) Cutting off the first few frames of an analog clip before splicing it into the timeline.

    Good luck

  3. FYI- once a clip is on your computer it is digital, regardless of the original source. It is edited, converted, and burned just like anything from an original DV source.

    When do you encounter the "stuttering"? Is it from the timeline in Video Studio? (By the way- that's your first mistake. Upgrade to something better- Ulead Media Studio Pro, Adobe Premiere, etc. if you want something worth showing off )

    When you captured the VHS material, how did the captures look? What program did you use to capture? Were your cables good quality or just something that you had lying around?

    We can probably help you out if you can provide a little more info. Keep trying and stick with it. When you finally get it right (it might take a long time!) you'll be very happy you did. Good luck!

  4. Hey thanks for the responses. Well i do normally use Premiere to edit although at this time i dont have access to it, (longstory!!) So im stuck with Ulead.

    What i did is captured the entire 40 sec highlight reel in ATI's TV mode as an mpeg 2. I then opened it up in Ulead and then took out clips from the already edited video. I then did this to another 40 sec highlight reel and placed it accordingly.

    The stuttering occurs about a half sec after the video cuts to an analog clip. This occurs when i preview the video and when i export it to a video file(avi).

    The captured 40 sec clips looked very good. the quality was good. nothing changed untill i spliced it up into the timeline. By the way i just used cables that were laying around, (although i don't think it was a problem considering the fact that the captured clips looked good and the stuttering didn't occur untill i cut it up and added it to the video.)

    I appreciate the help and hopely i just gave you enough info to help me solve the problem.

  5. I would try recapturing the 40 second clip as an AVI instead of MPG. I don't know if that'll fix your problem, but that's the first thing I would try. Don't delete your MPG though, just in case that doesn't fix it.

    How are you doing your transitions? And, are you using identical file specs (resolution and bitrate?). I have run into problems editing videos(mpg's) with different bitrates. The final encoding cleared most of it up, but I went back and recaptured everything to a spcific CBR, and the problems went away.

  7. Gazorgan im a little confused with your post. Im not really sure what you mean, but my transitions are just cuts, nothing special.

    Also this leads me to another problem that im having. Whenever i try analog capturing in Ulead i drop frames. Thats why i had to do it in another program and capture mpeg2
