My guess is you need to install the handler from within the Vdub folder.
I didn't get unsupported error's but I never solved my problems.
A link to full instructions can be found here
    Good luck,

  3. I have the same problem, i got a error too. And i have installed the handler in Vdub.
I have named my VDR file test.vdr and get the message:

    <"File D:\music\test" can not open, or unsupported>

    I use the versions
    TMPGEnc Version 2.510.49.157
    VirtualDub 1.5.1

Maybe there is a bug or something in this versions.

But there is a other way.
You can load subtitles directly in TMPGEnc with Vobsub 2.23

    Download Vobsub and install it.
Then op open TMPGEnc, close Wizzard.
Click on "Options" -> Environmental Setting ->VFAPI Plug-in
Click with right mouse click on "Directschow Multimedia file Reader" and selected Higher Priority. The Directschow Multimedia file Reader must be in the top of your window. Priority must be 1. Click on OK.
Video sourses and search you .avi movie. Make your chance in setting and load your Template. Hit than the Start

Sometimes my computer freezes when i use this method, i think i have problem with my memorycard. But you can try, maybe it works for you.

    Bye Cybergirl

PS: sorry for my bad englisch
