  1. Ok theres 2 audio tracks, one DD5.1 and one DTS track. The DD is 384k and the DTS is 768.The combined Bitrate being 1152.Now in the Caculater(
    https://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
) do i enter 1152 as the bitrate saying theres one track, this gives me a avg.5272 and a max.8418.Would this be right as the max.As the max birate is a combo of the audio bitrate and the video.Or can i up the max to 9000 as only one audio track is playing at once.

Im asking as im using CCE to encode.

Will you actually be using both streams? not many authoring programs support multiple streams.

  3. Yes i want to keep both tracks.Ifoedit lets you have more than one stream when authoring.

well ifoedit reports the max DVD stream rate is 10080kbps, meaning your max should be 8928kbps.

  5. Thanks,so as the stream is video+audio = maxbitrate. The more audio tracks you have the less the max bitrate is.

No. You can't play 2 audio streams at once. Use the max bitrate of the highest audio stream (768) in your case. You max video would be 10080-768=9312-overhead. I'd set you max video to 9000 (which is plenty, particulary in multi pass)

i know you can't play them both, but because it's all in one stream, the drive needs to be able to take all the data off the disc, which is where the 10080 limit comes from, it's 1X DVD, right?

  8. Sorry guys i think i confused that matter when i added both bitrates 2gether.

So 2 audio tracks, work out the bitrate by using the track with the highest bitrate.(in my case dts 768).As the player will only be taking the movie and 1 audio track of the disc at any one time. Then just leave enough room on the disc for the other track and any extras.

The sum of ALL streams YOU add to make the VOB files must not exceed 9.8Mbps. The whole lot will reach the 10.8Mbps AFTER additional (don't really know what) is added to make the elementary streams a VOB file.

So, if the audio streams added make (384+768) 1152 you can subtract that from the total of 9.8Mbps to reach the Maximum bitrate for video.

I would suggest to make that maximum setting 10~15% lower, as I have found out that at times, both CCE and Mainconcept may exceed the max bitrate you tell them by little.

Also, if you also add subtitles, this 10~15% lower caters so that the max bitrate is not exceeded.

The average bitrate can be calculated so that the video takes as much space as you want.

You may exceed the max bitrate by a little (if you wish) and many standalone players will not bother. Most, however, may exhibit what is described as momentary freezing of playback (if max bitrate is exceeded by a little and not very often) or jerky playback (if you set max bitrate too high and also select a high average bitrate).

You may do some test encodes exceeding the max bitrate limits, with a DVD-RW, to see for yourself, so that you know the problem in case you come across by accident.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  10. Sasi ..... so i was correct in the first place.I take all the audio streams and add there bitrates up.So with thosed 2streams i said my max bitrate for encoding is 8418.But maybe set it to 8200 to give me some give.As there is one english sub track.
Then the average depends on how much room i want to take up as i need to leave about 200mb of space as the couple of extras on the disc take up about 190mb.
