  1. i am tryiing to burn video files which i downloaded from the internet using nero 5.5 when i drag the file into nero it says unsupported file format. my friend says to check which type of file it is as nero only reads mpeg and avi file. however when i click properties it doesn't tell me anything.

also for some of the files i need the codec divx as i can't see anything, only hear but i downloaded it and it doesn't open for me to install it. i tried an earlier version and it opened but i couldn't install it. i'm using wndows xp, could there be a problem with it?

  2. Hello!

First you have to get a program that is called AVIcodec or simular.
You can download it from the left menu on this site under "TOOLS".

Then you can determine wich codec the file needs to be played on your computer.

If you want to burn to VCD there are some parameters that has to be correct in the videofile first.

I guess you have downloaded a divx or xvid or something like that.

If you want to view it on your vcd / dvd player then you need to encode the file so that it can be recognized by your standalone player.

Try to read some of the guides on this site it REALLY HELPS 8)

Downlaod GSpot to identify the audio/video codec.

Nero Absolutley Sucks for converting files to VCD/SVCD. Download TMPGEnc, and use it to covert before burning. There are many guides on it's use, and VCD is pretty foolproof.
