  1. Okay, I converted an xvid to vcd no problem, plays great on my pc. When burning to cd, however, it doesn't work.

I slap the vcd into my dvd player and it won't read it. I've never had a problem with my dvd player reading vcds/svcds. It's a newer sony and had up to this point played anything I had put in it.

    Any idea what's going on??

As the VCD plays ok on your PC then the problem must lie with the burning stage onwards...could be one of 4 reasons:

    Problem with your burning software.
    Problem with your burner itself.
A bad cdr...(this would be the easiest problem to sort...use another cdr!)

or.....your DVD player is up the spout....(test with another known working VCD)

  3. I know it's not the burning software, the burner itself, or the cdr. I burn probably 10 cd's a day, and I haven't had any problems with any of them. I only get problems when I convert an xvid to vcd and burn to cd. Also, I've got tons of vcd's and svcd's that I play on a regular basis in my dvd player, so the problem doesn't lie there either.

It makes me think it has something to do with the conversion from xvid to vcd using Tmpgenc.??? but the fact that it plays on my pc fine with no problems but doesn't on dvd player just doesn't make sense!! I only have this problem with xvid..

Sounds like you aren't converting something correctly. Did you leave the audio MP3? Did you get the re-size correct?

Playing on the PC but not the standalone is usually a codec/bitrate issue. Look at a 'bad' disk with GSPOT and verify codecs? use a bitrate viewer to verify bitrate?
