  1. Hi, I am trying to convert the Usual Suspect from divx to DVD. Here is what I did:

Audio, I saved teh wav file from the avi in Virtuadub, and then used besweet to convcert to 224 ac3

Video, I took the avi file, and used the NTSC DVD template they have for 16:9 vbr. I used 8000 as max, 6000 as average, and 2000 as min, with padding turned on. I only did the video portion. (took like 6 hours or so)

Then I took both, and put into Maestro, and burned.

What Im finding, is that when I play on my standalone (Sony 655), I get pixelation on darker areas. Brighter areas look fine. but dartker areas, i see boxes, and pixels. Actually, when the movie is in a bright scene, it looks amazing.

Also, I noticed t hat the file size for video is like 3.4 GB. Wouldnt it have used the max amount like 4.4 GB when I use vbr?

Although the movie is watchable, its VERY annoying. Any help would be apprciated.

Thansk in advance for your help....

Well taking a DIVX (that is probably at a max bitrate of 1000) and making it 8000 isnt gonna help...shit in is shit out.... DIVX is known to have bad pixilation in darker area's as it uses less bitrates.

Yes. On a Computer, black is black. On a TV, black is grey. That is, in RGB numbers, TV's don't support as many colors as Monitors do.

Now, since DivX is computer only (don't BS me about the 2 existing DivX capable standalone players), it does full color. When you convert a DivX/XviD to VCD/SVCD/DVD, you have to color correct for the colors a TV can't display.

However, a 800 kbps DivX is going to have oodles of background-black crawl without some 2d filtering.

  6. Dude....relax...Its just a question! (and i do appreciate your comments)

I am using a matrox G550 video card, that has a DVD-out port (S-VIDEO), which looks great on the tv. WHen I watch the avi, it looks very good on the tv. Thats all.

Another thing, If I were to use cbr at 6000 in TMPGENC, granted the movie itself isnt as good, but dark scenes aren't no where near as bad.
Could it be a vbr issue?

Also, anyone know why the filesize isnt being maxed out at 4.3 gig? Im only getting like 3.5 GB.

    Thanks in advance..
