  1. Finally got my Panason DV601 to allow me to feed video in (Satellite S-Video) and go straight to the hard drive (DV).

All this with a 32K program DVIO, as mentioned on the site!

    Ok, now the wish list.

Is there possibly a "programmable" dv capture program that lets the user set time & duration?

Also, can tempenc be script driven to take the DV and convert to MPEG2 once the file is captured?

I realize I can set up a macro program to clumsly do the job but...

Any help from the video gods is very much appreciated.

  2. Other freeware programs that capture dv include:

    WinDV
    DVapp
    Amcap
    Microsoft Windows Movie Maker 2

You don't need a script, TMPGEnc will normally accept DV. I managed to get TMPGenc to recognize type 1 DV avi files. I believe that it is by setting the priority setting in TMPGEnc for directshow at a higher setting, for example, +4, you increase the chances of compatibility with type 1 DV files. The exact instructions to do this are the following:

    In TMPGEnc, select:
Option >Environmental setting > VFAPI plug-in > Right click the "DirectShow Multi Media File Reader" > select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4.

  3. I use Scenelyzer to capture DV to the harddrive. I run out of my digital cable box and use my hi-8 camera as the middle man. So, essentially you are using dvio(?) the same way I'm using Scenelyzer.

There is a great recent guide on how to set up macros to turn on Scenelyzer, have it record, and then shut off. I'm sure you could create the macro to work with the DVIO program as well. It was actually much easier then I thought to follow the macro guide and now I no longer have to wake up in the middle of the night to tape bands on late night TV.

Doh. I just read your macro script comment. However, I think it's the only way to set up a programmable stop and start time right now. I could be wrong though.
