  1. hi guys, im pretty new to all this conversion stuff but have picked some of it up quite easy, however ive now got to a point where im pulling my hair out wondering what im doing wrongand hope im in the right posting room so here goes.
the problem i have is that i have used the header trick to convert the mpeg from SVCD to VCD no problems there apart from once it has encoded using the trick i have a green screen in the movie and am unable to view it on my pc. but i read in one of the posts not to trust that as once it is put on to cd and played back on a stand alone dvd player that problem sometimes goes away which it did, again . but now when i played it back on the stand alone dvd player the audio is all out of sync, once again reading other posts this is quite common. it said in this post i was reading about a program calle vcdgear what i now have.but i dont reall know what im doing as it didnt explain it and cant find a guide on it.
can any ony shed some light on the problem that i have.
am i using the right program and if so what do i do.
and if not is there another way or program that i can use.

hope you can help guys as im now going bald

im also using latest version of TMPGEnc for the header trick.

This is from a post in the players section on your Sony DAV S800:

    "Great dvd player!
Notice it can play xvcd, but don't use a freq higher than 44100 Hz, otherwise the audio might get out of sync and deformed"

Is the sound in your mpeg 44.1 KHz or 48 KHz? Just a possibility.

  3. i know i cant find a single fault with the player aprt from the fact it could of done with mp3 support but other than that a very great player.

the film is 44.1hz .plus when recoding i never use any thing else. put it this way i have done every thing that the header trick says in the guide but dont know what to do to get the audio back in sync with the film.
if its any more help i got the mpeg file off a p2p site with no audio problems everything was in sync til i used the header trick for vcd and now i need to find a way of putting it back in sync with the mpeg 1 file.

as a theory tell if im wrong but would i need to extract the audio part with virtual dub then use the header trick (multiplexing) then recode it with the extracted audio or would i be barking up the wrong tree there.

and ive noticed a lot about this xvcd what is xvcd

Vdub can't do that for mpegs, it's really made for Avi's.

VCD has some strict standards, when you go outside them it's an XVCD. From the glossary:
"eXtended VCD - XVCD has same features as VCD but it is possible to use higher bitrates and higher resolution to get higher video quality. XVCD is basically everything that uses MPEG-1 video, is not within the VCD standard, and burned in "VCD" Mode on a CD-R or CD-R(W). XVCD can be played on some hardware VCD or DVD players and many computers with appropriate software. "

You should try your "header-tricked" video on another player to see for sure if it's the movie out of sync or the player. Some players don't like some media. You can try another brand of disk, CD-RW's are most compatible. Also, try burning at a really low speed, 1-4X.

I can't think of anything else, good luck!

  7. Hey, finally I get a chance to help somone and give a little back.

I had the same problem as you but solved it with a little info found on this site.

Yes you do indeed need to use Virtualdub. What this does is separate out the audio from the movie file you are trying to turn into VCD. You then select the created audio wav file as the audio source in TMPGEnc an voilla problem solved.

    It's all explained here

    https://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubaudio.htm

Also you can improve the audio quality
by using an external audio encoder because TMPGEncs own audio encoder is not the best. One of the best audio mpeg layer 2 encoders is tooLame, download and extract all files to a folder. In TMPGEnc under Options->Environmental Settings->External tools select Layer 2 and browse for the toolame.exe

  8. thanks for the info .

ccan i still use this even thou i have used the header trick to convert it from svcd 2 vcd.
so once i have extracted the audio from my now converted svcd will have have to re encode it as a vcd?, cause there was another way that i tried and that was to just re encode it as a vcd instead of using the header trick, but when i did the file went from 800mb to 1.4gb and really i want to keep it as 800mb as the film is already split over 3 cds and that would make it about 5cds plus the quality that i have with using the header trick is excellent.

  9. Yes, but import the original file into virtual dub to strip the sound from it (don't worry about the file size of the wav).

Then input both the original video file and your newly created wav file into TMPGEnc and away you go.

If you get stuck try looking at some of the guides on this site.

  10. so does that mean ill have to re encode it as a vcd rather than using the header trick so instead of having 800mb files they will be 1.4gb and standard vcd format.

thanks for your help for now and in advanced
