is the .mov possibly shitty before conversion? if not try the export function with QT Pro v6. save as .avi then convert to .mpg
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler.

Quicktimes are tricky.. First you want that QT reader to be high priority (look for Environmental Setting in the menus, go to the final tab, and experiment with the right mouse button). Second, be aware that QT6 has variable frame rate (translation: argh). Third be aware that TMPGEnc tends to try and record all quicktimes at about 60fps as often the framerate information is just not readable.. you have to maybe make a few test files at 24 (or 23.976), 25, 30 (or 29.97)fps, etc to see which one looks best when finished.
And turn up the motion search, but DONT put it on maximum for QTs. Neither if you use any variable bitrate should the minimum be much below ~50kbits (I use 48, seems to stop it having floating point fits ok..). Doesn't like that for some reason.
Oh yeah, and is your encode bitrate/quality up enough anyway? It could be your finger slipped and now you're encoding an mpg of a high motion, animated quicktime at about 150kbit/s

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!

  5. hmmm... the priority on the qtreader.vfp is set at 0 and it wont go higher. im not quite sure what you mean by the rest of the settings, im a novice at tmpgenc, im using the plus version 2.5.

the test files im using are teh animatrix movies from the animatrix website.

    thanks

i tried fiddling with the settings, but the mpg came out a little blurry after encoding.
