  1. Okay, here's the deal:

-Digitizing a mpeg2 file with Dazzle DVCII
-Creating a dvd2avi project with my mpeg2 file
-Trying to frameserve, with either vfapi or avisynth

I can open both files in CCE (the vfapi .avi or avisynth .avs), but I can't seem to chance the bitrate at all. Or whenever I've changed it, CCE switches it back to Min 500, Average 500 & Max 9000.

I've tried several versions of CCE (currently using 266.01.07), but it seems to be the same.

Another thing which seems weird is that when I open the .avi project CCE lists it to be 10 seconds - while the actual mpeg2 file is 80 min.
My vfapi file lists the time & number of frames correctly.

However, my main issue is that I'm not able to change the bitrate.
Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Paul

  2. something is wrong with the avisynth script,
thats why cce shoes you that the movie is only 10 seconds long.
    check the script.

  3. Okay, I can go over my avisynth script again.
Although I don't mind using vfapi, if I could only change to the bitrate settings I need.

    Any suggestions ?

  4. Hi,

does anyone have ANY suggestion at all?? Still not getting anywhere.
CCE automaticly switches bitrate back to i.e. 500/500, and won't let me maky any changes..

  5. CCE will not allow a programmed bitrate below 500. You don't say what you're trying to set the bitrate to.

Also, set the min and max before you set the avg, since CCE keeps wanting to modify the avg after setting the max.

Have you tried to look at the video? Maybe you're getting an error from the script.

Also, Dazzle MPegs aren't "legal" mpegs until you've "Produced" them. After a capture, "produce" the video using MovieStar.

Agreed, although you can set the min as low as you want, down to 0. The layout for CCE is rather odd. I always find myself trying to put the MIN value in the AVG area. I don't know why. It just seems logical to put them in order (Min, Avg, Max). VidGuy's got it though. Make sure you MIN is less than your AVG. Put in your MIN value first, then your AVG, and then your MAX. Of course, MAX has to be higher than AVG, or MIN.

Your AVISynth script problem should be pretty simple to fix, if that is indeed the problem. Just paste it into a reply, so we can see it. I used to use dazzle as my first capture card. I don't know if I recall correctly, but I don't think dazzle even gives you a solid MPEG file, until you produce it, so I have no idea how you would be importing it into an AVIsynth script, without producing first. Seems like it had lots of sub folders, with pieces of data files. Things may have changed though, and it has been a LONG time since I used it.

  7. At least with my Dazzle, I get a single file that says it's mpeg, but I've been told it's not a well-formatted mpeg until you produce it (don't know exactly what that means, but I know it doesn't edit well with anything but mpeg2vcr in the "unproduced" state.

I guess they did it so you can preview your work. The MPEG is probably non-compliant until you "produce' it. I actually liked my Dazzle, except for the fact that you had to capture in MPEG, and the audio frequency was weird (something like 32Khz). Not difficult to fix, but the need to edit, and the need to resample finally conviced me to trade it in.
