  1. Hi there.
ok what I want to do is make a menu with mpeg layer 2 audio as the background menu with the phillips toolkit just like on a commercial vcd.

I converted a wav file to mpeg layer 2 file with a .mpa extension with TMPEGenc as stated in the guide, and then muxed the mpa audio file on its own with vcdmux without any problems, there were also no problems for vcd toolkit accepting the mmd audio file as the background music.

I builded and burned the image file. But when I put it in my dvd player, the menu plays for about 5 secs without audio and then a black screen appears and then my dvd timer starts from 0 secs to 1 minute (length of audio file) but I hear no sound. The menu works with audio on power dvd software on my computer perfect.

I selected file mode and opened the segment folder and I saw 2 segment files. when I select the 1st segment the menu appears without audio, but when I select the 2nd segment only the mpeg audio file plays. This is why many dvd players cannot play a menu+mpeg audio which are seperate segments.

When I load a segment from a commercial vcd with power dvd on my pc the main menu and the audio are in 1 segment and it starts to play, and the menu and audio of the commercial vcd play perfect on my standalone dvd player.

Can someone please tell me how to make a menu+mpeg 2 audio as 1 segment with the phillips toolkit. Thankyou.

  2. There is nothing wrong with the way VCD Toolkit made the menu. This is the way to create a high resolution still menu screen with audio in the background.

However, not all DVD players support audio only segment items (which is what the above method involves).

In terms of making a VCD menu with the video and audio in "one" segment item, that segment item is essentially just a normal VCD standard mpeg (i.e., video and audio). This does mean, however, you won't have the high resolution still available in the other method.

    Regards.
