  1. This is what happens when you sit at home.

I can't wait for work to pick up.

    Anyway...

Ok, say I capture a 2 hour VHS at 8000 bit.

That will give me a 8 gig file (give or take). I want to put this to 1 DVDR.

Option 1: Re-encode the file down with Tmpegnc, aprox run time 48 Hours.
Option 2: Re-encode with CCE $1000 out of pocket, aprox time spent making an AVS file... Still trying, I'll get back with you.

Option 3: Split the file. Author to 2 dvdrw's (no menus). Decrypt the dvdrw's too two folders, Use Ifoedit to reassemble the vobs as one movie. Use dvd2one to re-encode, Aprox run time 7-8 hours.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

You could author your 8Gb file with SpruceUp and then convert that to 4.38GB with DVD2ONE,about an hour.

Try this drop both Audio and Video bitrate down.
4500 to 6000 VBR set the Audio 224KHz MPEG Layer 2 that give 2 hour and room for the other stuff to.

  6. Through Tmpgnc right?

Interesting problem has come up. Damn software will only capture 4 gig files.

Is your drive NTFS or FAT32? Yes you have that problem with FAT32 but not NTFS.

  8. Sorry I didn't fully explain that. The program will only capture 4 gig files. After 4 gig's it starts a new file. You can't set it any higher than 4 gig's.

I guess they are assuming everbody is Fat32.

    I'm NTFS all the way.

    What a delema.

Capture AVI in V-Dub over 4 gig, than convert to Mpeg2

    OR

Capture 2 files to MPeg2 (With the software that came with the card) and join them.

    It's always something.

  9. Update:

Captured VHS 138 min movie set at 704X480 7900 bit, GOP 6 SubGOP 4, motion vector 16X16.

Because of my software splitting the file at the 4gig point, I captured 2 files (mpeg2). Cut & joined them in Tmpgenc. Total file size 7.5 gig.

    Ran 2 test dvdrw's

1 through dvd Shrink, #3 setting, 4.2 output size.

    2 through dvd2one 4.4 & 4.3 output size.

    NO menus

A very noticable blockiness constant at the top of the screen from dvdShrink within the first few minutes.

From a VHS master to dvd, dvd2one wins.

  10. Next step.

    With a movie & dvd2one I don't care about a menu.

But, Im doing a episode vhs to dvd and would like a menu.

After dvd2one does it's thing, making sure to set the output size a little smaller to leave room for a menu. I am left with 4+ gig's of vobs.

Does Unlead or spruce up read vobs?

I guess I need to re-rip the new vob's. I know how to do that from a dvd disk. Never have done it from the HD.

    Hmm...
