    What I wish to do....

I want to capture the DTS feed from my LD's optical output and record it on the Hard Drive to try to burn a DVD with the Video from an original DVD, and the DTS sound from a laser disk....

My victim disks (not that it matters) are Golden Eye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Rush Hour, Kull the Conqueror, and soon Mortal Kombat.

    My Setup:

A Pioneer CLD 3030 LD Player (Does DTS Fine VIA Optical Out)
A Pentium 3/733 320 Megs with a Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum (So I have Optical In)
    Cool Edit for Sound Capture

I have been able to capture a stream, telling Cool Edit it is sampled at 48, and a 1.5 mb/s steam, but it is unplayable.

Anyway, what can I do with my current setup?
What software, if any, should I try in place of Cool Edit, or what settings in Cool Edit?
Is this even possible with the Audigy 2? If not, I am SOL for now.

I know the Audio/Video syncronization is the next big challenge, but one step at a time!

    Thanks for the help!

I'm in the process of performing a similar task with the SW trilogy (obviously with the DD sound track vs. DTS). What I'm doing is capturing the analog feed coming out of my receiver (6 channels) and then recreate the 5.1 DD signal to mux with the vid cap. Not ideal, but still sounds better than settling for a stereo cap. If you go this route, I would suggest that you make a calibration DVD or CD to adjust your audio level input (and in my case the 5.1 level out from the receiver) - I suggest a 1kHz tone at a -3dB level.

I do not believe I have a setup to demux in the same manner you are describing. Are you demuxxing the analog signal from the LD player, never going through a modular?

As for how I am trying to play it. I did a test....

I ripped the trailer for Rush Hour from my DVD, and then captured the DTS sound from the LD. I pieced them back together, and tried playing it in PowerDVD, WinDVD, and using my Real HollyWood + card, none of them detected a DTS feed.

My initial guess was that the stream was not coded as if it were DTS, so I tried to do that with IFOEdit, no change.

    Now I am just lost!

    Thanks for the replies, BTW

    mouse_master:

I am feeding the RF DD signal from the LD player to my reciever (Sony 555ES) via an RF de-modulator. I am capturing the Analog channels out of the receiver and then reconstucting them later with softencode.

A while back there was some discussion about capturing the DD signal direct - there were too many issues, primarily HW related, to say that it can be done. Some claimed that it was possible, but I got the impression that what they thought was the DD signal was really only the PCM soundtrack (IMO). Also during that time the discussion on DTS came up and from what I recall, there were no readily available tools that would allow you to manipulate/capture that stream.

That would be a possibility, although I'd need to layout serious cash on Surcode DTS DVD to try that, and it is still recreating the wheel.

I thought maybe the Audigy 2 would be able to do it, since they seem to push how you can capture an audio stream from a MiniDisc.

Thanks for the replies though! Need to keep messing around with it I guess, experimenting.

If you hunt around on Creative's site, you will find some documents that clearly state that capture from the SPDIF port is two channel stereo only. The card will not perform any DD decoding from that port - it will only pass-through to an external decoder if selected.

I returned that card as it was worthless to me once I found that tidbit of info - I bought it specifically to capture the DD signal from my LD player.
