  1. Whenever i capture an analog source using the ATI 8500DV AIW i recieve a band on the bottom of the screen. Although when i burn it to DVD i don't seem to notice.

What is the band, and why is it there?

  2. It's common with most capture cards and you don't see it on your tv because it clips the edges. You can use TMPGEnc to erase the noise using "Clip frame".

This is part of the stuff you normally don't see on a TV. You TV only displays some of the actual lines, the rest jsut hit the side fo the tube. However, your computer isn't like this, it sees everything.

what I do for any analog capture is to trim some off the top/bottom/sides, then resize to final size. If I'm going for 480 in the vertical resolution , then I'll trim and pad with black. It's usually more obvious with tapes than with cable or sattelite.

    How do you do this?

  5. The easiest way to do what Gazorgan suggest is using VirtualDUB and the crop followed by resize. I've done this, but don't like the results if you need to crop more than a few lines. You just end up with good picture being un-viewable. I do the trim as Gazorgan suggests (I use VDub to check out where to crop then the avisynth Crop function to do the actual cut), and then use avisynth and AddBorders to expand the frame back to a compatible size.
