  1. Darn it I was going to order this printer but now I can't find the link I thought I had saved from a member here. So anyone have a suggestion where I may order this printer with the CDR option as some of the printers are being shipped without the option in the box?

i don't think epson makes a CD printer. i know there is a CD printer called EZCD that is a modified epson and uses epson ink cartridges.
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler.

  4. Epson does make a printer capable of writing directly onto cdrs (if they are inkjetprintable that is). I have one of these (Epson Stylus Photo 950) and it works just fine.

  9. Well I found two links for the 960 printer but they don't say if the printer comes with the adaptor to print directly to CDR. Anyway here are the links.

  11. BoB W:

I checked the links you posted and I must say it looks like the 960 is the same as the 950.

It has the same specs and the picture shows the same printer, maybe the differens is the included stuff?

When I got my 950 all extras where included in the box, such as:
    Paper roll holder (Photopaper roll)
cutting mechanism (to use with photopaper roll)
Frontloading tray (to use with CDR adapter)
    CDR adapter

the only thing not included where of course the printer cable.

But maybe the 960 is an American version without some of the extra features included?

OK, Heres the £/$ 64.000 question...

    Q. Will printing Directly onto the DVD-rs affect the playback of the DVD-rs like it doe's when you put Labels on.?

    NOT AT ALL

FROM the Chief Tech Officer at SONIC, J.Taylor

There are full-size round labels designed to go on recordable CDs and DVDs, but they have been known to cause problems. As DVD-ROM drives get faster and faster, destabilization of the disc by a label may cause read errors. A better (but more expensive) solution is to use an inkjet disc printer (IMT, Odixion, Primera, Rimage, Trace Affex) and printable-surface discs.

  20. I must be lucky because of all the 250 or so DVD's I have labeled with full size round paper labels I have had zero problems with playback on the three different DVD players at home. I wonder if the rotation speed of the stand alone players is as fast as the DVD drives we have in our computers?

  21. You might all so want to consider the Epson stylus Photo 900 which is around half the price of the 950 model.

Here in Dubai the Retail price is US $ 225 for the 900 model and US$ 462 for the 950

I purchased the Epson 900 model couple of weeks ago prints directly to cd as well, does not have an automatic cutter and the print specs are not as good as the 950, however your hard pressed to tell at a glance.

Convenience wise great for printing directly to the cd allthough you still of course get a better quality print when printing onto the cd label media.

Over all I could not justify the extra expense to have the 950 model.

The epson 900 is doing a good job printing directly to cds

    PRICE?
On Epson's site the price is $349 US. As far as I can tell, that is the only inkjet model Epson makes that prints directly to a CD/DVD. There is no "900" model listed in North America. None of their higher priced models offer CD/DVD printing.

Is it so freakin' hard to type in www.epson.com into your browser address bar? There are less letters than the URL to this website!

  26. i hope this is not a dumb question, but can you use cdrs with a "clear" top surface...or does it have to be special printable white-top cdrs? theyre a bit thin on the ground round these parts....plus pretty pricey...ive seen lots of silver-looking cdrs with writing printed directly on the top of them, with the rainbow colors of the cdr coming thru between the writing...im keen to do the same...

    cheers,
    blackout

  27. Yeah has any1 tried to print on a CD-R wich does not have a printet surface ?

A blank cd is much cheaper...

Or do you have to use special cd's if you want to print on them?

  28. Hi Guys,

The local (Silverlink, North Shields, England) has the Epson PhotoStylus 900 for £199.00. It's a lower spec version of the 950, BUT, it does print onto the DVD/CD surface like the 950!!

Check it out, if you don't need all of the extras that the 950 has, and you'd like to save about £200.00 (950= £379.00) its the one to go for!!.

I cannot find it on Epsons website, but its there on the shelves.

    Bill
