  2. This program is really good!!, it's the first where i can put VCD files without problems (Captured from TV).

My problem is the following, i have a card that captures in VCD directly but it makes some "mistakes", gop in 20 vs 18, that didnīt let it author with Scenarist or Spruce Up or Maestro. The programs that accept the video (ifoedit and Ulead DVDWorkshop/MovieFactory) totally blew the sinchronization, because they put a Mpg 2 flag and the video runs at 1300 vs the original 1150 KB per second.

While DVDLab did not accept the video (It says it hasn't an aspect ratio) i was able to put it via the clips section and it works like a charm....

I hope the author fix the bug with the aspect ratio (an option to specify the ratio will really help...)

Many "claim" to be able to handle AC3 but I and many others with the same goal in mind have found very few that handle them with any consistency. "Media detection errors" are far too common and ac3 fix does nothing to fix this.

Mutiple menus , music in the menus , 5.1 track handling (i have yet to see a DTS capable program) . Thats all i need yet every program seems to throw up on one portion or another.
Thats what im talking about too. I also would like to see a program that can do Anamorphic widescreen. Many will do the video part but have full screen menus.

I realize that Maestro is expensive, and no longer available but i do sort of argue the hard to learn part but i dont want to start a war over it. It is the only program i have found that can do AC3 and 16:9 movies/menus, save Scenarist, which is beyond me how anybody uses that thing.

I would also like menu transitions. A really good feature would be the ability to have chapter buttons that is actually a thumbnail of the actual chapter playing, i.e. the star wars episode 1 chapter menus.

    I'm having problems running it too. It installed OK on my Win98SE system but when I run it I get;

    1. the splash screen (startup)
    2. the "reminder" screen,
    3. then I get the "this program has preformed an....." error.

DVDLAB caused an invalid page fault in
    module KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:bff9db61

    and then the stack dump.

From the help I've seen, it looks like it would be a great program worth twice the price. If only I could get it to work

Hey "BOSS" is this the same thing you are getting?

i think my problem is slightly different to yours. after the splash screen i get an error saying something like a .dll file is missing. and then i get a kernell32 error. i can't get rid of the kernell error by clicking ok. i have to restart the machine!
has anyone got this program to work with winme? because some people on the mmb forums who seemed to be in the same boat as me look like they now have the program running. but i don't see an update or fix posted there!

  6. Well the program's interface, feature list, price, all and all looks promising but in reality I could not get it finish a single project!
When I open a VCD mpeg file, it starts to demux it and after a few minutes just drops the file. There is no sign of the file in the assets window. On disk, the file can be find that has been demuxed halfway...
When importing SVCD mpeg files, it demuxes to the end and then a pop-up shows and asks to convert the audio to 48k. Press yes and the process starts. eventually it finishes with the audio. everything perfect. No!. The audio file is shorter than the original! If you select the same bitrate, the output will have exactly the same size (in bytes) but obviously is truncated (48k file should take more space than 44.1k, right ).
I think these will be fixed but till now it has shown looots of bugs. I doubt that the author will be able to finish it by the May 1st (the estimated relase date) or if he does, I suggest hold on and wait for a v2.0.

Hey I like it! So far everything I tried with it workd great. Sure It's got bugs, it's a prerelease. It works great on XP pro. It definetly likes NTFS. It's a little tough to learn, but all truly great programs are. I thinks it definetly worth the price. everyone should at least try it out.

I have been trying the pre release for a couple of weeks now and think it will be a great program.

The Stinger - in the "menu" menu there is a item called simulate. This allows you to test your menu navigation.

JamesB69 - menus transitions are included in the program. Chaper stiils are easy. Montion menus need to be prepared as clips outside of DVdlab and then added to the menu.

ac3 at 224 works fine. There are problems with some rates i.e. 192 does not work at the moment. Do not mix ac3 and wav in the same disk, does not work.

Multi audio is planned for the future.

Do check out the mediachance forums for known issues and workarounds.

ac3 problem appears to have been fixed with latest update from Oscar (way to go!!!)

jcee, if you check the forum: http://www.mmbforums.com , in the DVDLab section, I'm certain one of the highest posts will be the updated release. Just downloaded it yesterday

The author of the program changed the registration scheme and people are reporting success now with Windows 98, etc, where it wasn't working before.

Best thing to do, check the forums

Oscar has been extremely responsive in trying to fix the issues that have crept up.... and from my experience in authoring with it.. I"m probably going to stick with it

  13. Great program ! Very cool.
    But there's a BIG problem...
    Can't import DVB elementary stream @ 528 x 576 res (PAL)...
    Only 544 x 576 (pal) is supported.

  14. Great programm.. very impressive..

But have same problem with several files mainly from DVB

I can select the files and then they are scanned , but disappear! Is this because of the fact that they are not DVD standard (resolution?)

Can one overide this? I know it won't be DVD standard.

Remember this is a pre-release version, if you want an option to be included in final release or in update after that you need to participate at mmbforums DVDlab section.

Maybe the only thing needed are some mpg files with that resolution so Oscar can test them out and open the restriction for that.

More than 4 updates in only 17 days. Check http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/history.html

  17. This was just posted by Oscar:
To the installation: The "update" is in fact the same as full installation without most of the backgrounds, buttons, sound clips and help. You can use it as update or as a clean install, it has all necessary files -just lacks the goodies. I will not create another beta with all these files - it is 4 MB against 16 MB
So you only need the latest update even if you never installed dvdlab before (no need for dvdlab10.exe if you can't find it). Just follow Bumstead's URL a couple of posts above.

  22. Well I like the idea of it. If it works I'll be buying it. I have the pre-release was about to rip several svcd's onto it. But the guide was not very clear took me a few days but i figured it out. Howveer one of my svcd's would get so far and say invalid vob. Um since when do svcd's have vob files. Anyway that was a real pisser since it was disc 3 of the magnificient 7 and it ripped disc 1 and 2 a ok. And the other discs i ripped did fine. It does look like a very cool tool once I get it figured out and the bugs get worked out. The user interface is not very friendly, but then again it's for the suppossed advanced , I guess if you spend enough time with something you become advanced.

  23. Here is the latest version http://www.mediachance.com/files/dvdlabup0427.exe
I have tried using it to put several svcd's on a dvd, but when i go to compile a dvd the program crashes. I'm using windows 2000 pro. Has anyone else had this experience.
    Thanks In advance, Will

  24. Will,

Make sure you ask that question on the mediachance forum -- you may already be familiar with this (and may have already asked the question there) but that's where the developer, Oscar, hangs out and seeks feedback on the beta. Plus there are some knowledgable users who try and assist others.

    http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/index.html

  26. Maff,

Oscar was trying for a May release but I suspect that will slip for at least a month. He has hinted about posting a new beta sometime soon (and one that will have a 30 day period starting over) so if I were you I'd just frequent that forum and pay attention and pick up the latest beta when it comes out.

This is a good time to get involved and give feedback so this can end up being the best authoring program out there.
