    Ok,

After doing hours of research and reading,

I found out that mplayer and mencoder can uotput .sub and .srt files.

Well, Ive tried many tests myself using terminal.

And only 1 worked, which gave me a .sub file that was jsut garbled and titlelab couldn't read. Not even bbedit could.

If someone with programming skill would want to create a program like this, it would make a fine addition to the new progs comin out like: DVD2One Mac OS X, FFmpegX .h, DVD SP 2, and others.

If u want to talk to me and get info about it,

    My Aim SN is: Qshartle

on one of the other boards, the rumor was that dsp 2
"- It has -real- subtitling, including import of standard subtitle file formats."

    from 2-pop

but it's still 5-6 months away from being released.

If anyone has the latest version of Sizzle, you'll notice it has a new little app that converts from DVD subtitles to series of bitmaps and an timing file called SUBtractor. I'm busy on the next version, which will allow you to run an OCR on the subtitles and turn them directly into real text subtitles.

    Just so everyone knows. 8)

  8. Ooh, that's music to my ears. A real OCR editor for subtitles? A way for obsessives like me to correct misspelled subtitles? Glory!

Since I see you roaming around in this topic, bullitB, I'll pose the question I asked elsewhere: any chance of being able to control the color of subtitles in the SUBtractor-generated .SUB file? I've been able to fiddle with the outline color (using a four-number sequence on the first line of the .sub file) but not the main character body color. (It's always black.)

Any idea how to get a more useable set of colors?

Subtitle color (on a DVD) is controlled by pallettes stored in those little .IFO files. Changing the colors in the .SUB files or the bitmaps to which it refers won't really do anything.

As for a release date...no promises. One question, though, what's everyone's favorite subtitle format?

I like .sub and .srt or just plain text for DVDSP

.srt I like the best, because u can add it to preexisting movies, which didnt have them before.
