    Hi.

I got this capture card called Terratec cinergy 600 TV.

I use the program Windvr that came with it, to make vcd or svcd and maybe later DVD.

In windvr under options, you can set how big the mpg file should be, before it's makes a new mpg file, default is 600 MB ( about 1 hour) in vcd mode.

When i recorded 1 hour 30 minutes, there will be two mpg files, one is 600 MB and number two is about 300 MB.

There is no problem with the first mpg file, the problem is mpg file 2,3,4 and so on.

The mpg file 2,3,4 and so on can be played in mediaplayer, but if you want to take something out in the middle of the file, using TMPGEnc (merge and cut) it will say the file is bad, this is what it sayes "Illegal MPEG video stream".

    Pleaze help.

    What can i do.

  3. Come on, people, this is really a crappy situation we're in, we can't use the damn files... doesn't anyone care?

  4. I'm in the same boat. Capture in DVD format, and get 1 file 4.1 GB ib size, and the second, the remainder of the movie, unless it requires 3 or more files. I can trim or split the first part, but get the "Illegal" or "Not valid" error message. Someone suggested recording the first half, and then recording the second half. That's fine vor recording from tape, but I cap. from DSS. Not very practical, unless it's the PPV's.

I also found that TMPGEnc demultiplexer fails from time to time (Illegal MPEG video stream).

I then use demuxone.exe from DVMPEG Darim Vision.
    http://www.darvision.com/demo/dvmpeg6demo.exe

    It works perfectly.

After that you can remux the audio and video in TMPGEnc which then has no problem demuxing or editing the file !

    hope this helps

  7. I'm having a problem with TMPGenc's "Merge". I have 2 mpg files. You can watch the seperatly and they play fine. But when I merge them together. the second part of the movie's audio is out of sink. Anyone have a solution?

    Thanks

If any of you are trying to merge/cut whatever with TMPGEnc using a file NOT CREATED WITH TMPGENC, then you're wasting your time.
The help files state there will be problems with .mpg's created with third party software.

You assume it's a complient MPEG stream? Several of the Personal Recorders are NOT complient.

So try this, make the disk size 5000 and don't worry about it. Edit the stream as needed, then cut the finished product at whatever CDR breakpoint you use.

Here's a tip; There is more than 1 type of MPEG stream. This has absolutely nothing to do with codecs, it has to do with the physical structure of the Audio/Video stream. Try de-multiplexing them before you edit them?

Not entirely accurate. I've been capturing with a Dazzle in vcd format, and now with a TV@nywhere in VCD, SVCD, and DVD formats, and the only problem encountered is with DVD, but ONLY with the 2nd (3rd.) file. IE, the part(s) created after the first 4.1 Gb. is reached. Other than that problem, I can trim, split, demux, render, whatever.

if you have no problems with the first file can't you just set your capture software to create one big file and NOT split it, then do whatever you want with that ONE file in TMPGEnc?

  12. Hard drive not formatted to NTFS. Just dawned on me this morning why I couldn't exceed 4.1 Gb. Will be correcting that in the next couple days.

So, what do you use to encode before you use TMPGEnc to trim/merge etc.? and and another related subject...
    ...you're using TMPGEnc to render?

  14. Capture directly to DVD MPEG2 w/ TV@nywhere, trim and split in TMPEGEnc, then author and burn. I've only got a 12 year old JVC TV with one RCA imput (No SVHS), so quality is fine for me.All I need to do now is find out how to add chapters w/o screwing up my audio, and getting audio that will work with my 10 year old Surround Rcvr.
