  1. AHHHHHHHHHH!!! I have a small library of divx/xvid files that are mostly 23.976 fps. Some have VBR audio and some don't but I get the same problem from both.

I am trying to convert them to a "Film SVCD" with tmpenc. I also perform an inverse telecine (i believe the guides recommended).

I get an out of sync result with ALL my movie files that I've tried. I must be doing something wrong! Please help me!

If the material is already at 23.976fps you should not be trying to inverse telecine it.

  3. It even screws up without inverse telecine.

  4. I assume that you use VCD-Header trick. If you do, try either "MPEG-2 Video-CD" instead of "MPEG-2 Video-CD (Non-standard)" or the other way around and see if that works.

You Inverse Telecine 29.97 down to 23.97 for Film only. Anthing else generally makes a mess. Don't use the Film template, use NTSC SVCD.

What are you using to convert you audio from the DivX ( I'm assuming VBR and AC3 audio, a safe assumption )

Does the resulting MPEG stay in sync on your computer before you burn it? If it's not in sync on your PC, it surely won't be in sync on a standalone player.
