  1. Hello Everybody,

I finally received my Sony DRU 500A (after 1.5 month – Belgium) and I encounter some problems.

I backed up Men in Black II with Instantcopy. ( hard disk image and then burn with IC - Princo DVD-r) Everything went very well and I could play the movie on my standalone DVD (Philips 612)

I did the same with Minority Report and surprisingly, I could not play it.
The player starts normally and then stops after the end of the “Warning” sequence (9 sec)
I tried another DVD-r brand (Sentinel) and a DVD+RW (provided with Sony DRU): same problem.
WinDVD crashed when trying to read both backups.
    PowerDVD could read them.

I tried to play these on another standalone DVDs (Philips 640 and Pionner) : all OK.

I did another backup of Minority Report with DVD2One and it was OK on my standalone DVD player. The problem is that I cannot remove the unwanted languages and extra so that the final result is a blocky movie.
I know there is a guide on how to do it with DVD2one but the procedure is longer than Instantcopy.

If I want to stick to Instantcopy, do I have to buy another DVD player or can I solve the problem ?

    Thanks

I've had a few movies that I copied with IC7 and they do the same thing. If I go to scene selection and choose the first scene I can watch the movie. Obviously not an ideal solution. I hope someone knows how to resolve this problem. BTW - I also have a Sony DRU-500A. Hopefully, the Sony is not the cause of the problem.

Yes, I ripped with Smartripper and selected all files. The most recent movie I had trouble with is I-Spy that had both Widescreen and Full Screen versions. The only thing I de-selected was the Full Screen file.

if you are removing titles with IC then I suggest you don't as I have shown in my examples. This is why the feature is actually disabled by Pinnacle as it does not function correctly. If you choose to remove titles with IC then don't be surprised when your burnt DVD chokes on it

You need to use Ifoedit or something else to remove unwanted Titles and need to do it correctly

widescreen/fullscreen DVD's are one of IC's worst nightmares and so are DVD's that have a selection menu for screen format or menu language before the main menu

you must be very careful with these types of DVD's when using IC and especially title removal

  6. Hello MackemX,

Thanks for your link, it was very helpful.
I did one trial on one DVD and it worked.
I back up with IC, removing unwanted stuff.
    I Burn on a DVD-RW
I copy the files from DVD-RW to HD.
I use Ifoedit and correct the damaged IFO file.
    Burn the final movie.
    Tired.....

I tried on only one movie and it worked.
Will try with others and keep you informed.

    Meantime, I have another question.
Can I transform the .pdi files generated by IC in a structured DVD file (to avoid burning on DVD-RW and copy HD) ?

    Thanks

But ... Tried to fix Ifo's on a second movie (bad company). Can't do it (DVD won't play on my standalone)

How can I fix this IC issue ?
IC is very peformant and easy to use....

But if I have to go through IfoEdit then...

    Any other ideas ?

    Thanks

  10. I have been having this same problem recently. I finally decided to spend a few more dollars and got myself some nicer media to do some more testing.

I'm using a Cendyne burner (A05/105) and I have changed the registry for IC7 to allow title selection. I noticed on a couple of movies, I get the warning screen then I select play, it plays for like 5 secs and then it freezes. Then oddly, if I stop and play again, it plays fine. The interesting part is that when I play from menu, it seems like it's picking up title 3. When I stop and play, it goes to title 1 which is where the movie is. I'm playing on a Pioneer 525 player and the movie is Knockaround Guys. I also had some issues with Red Dragon on a Toshiba where it loads the warning screen then it tries to load the menu and it freezes to a point where I have to unplug and plug the player.

This is very odd and it sort o make sense as to why the Title selection options are not available unless you hack it. Has anyone encountered this issue? I wonder whether this will ever get fixed in future release. For a reason I paid for it.

  12. Thank MackemX. And I noticed your active participation in the Doom9.org forum.

I already read that and also scanned thru the threads. Sounds very interesting and it is definitively a major blow to otherwise a great application.

I must admit, some of the things pointed out in the link was a bit too heavy for me to dilute but from a high level discussion, is there a way to correct or fix the IFO that IC7 'butchered' up?

I always thought IC7 was near perfect and I've done only a few movies and they 'sort of' worked fine. Did notice how the menu sometimes does not really play the movie and for some odd reason, I press stop and play and it plays fine.

Without going thru preparing the DVD noted in your link, is there anything that can be done after the fact. In other words, can we do anything after IC7 does all of the title stripping and compression? Would that be a solution other than doing all the preparation work prior to running IC7?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

the easiest way is to strip it first and make sure you do it properly and it will work in IC along with the other 3

to try and rebuild it after IC has had it's hands on it, is not easy even for me

if your DVD don't work now then just rip it again, and do it again. Once you have prepared the DVD a few times you will soon get better at it cos it seems like quantum physics at first but it isnt

  14. Thanks for the posts.
I have definitively chosen to rip the DVD, remove the unwanted stuff with Ifoedit, compress (if necessary) with DVD2one and burn
This works on my Philips 612.
Hopefully next IC7 version will fix this issue ...

  15. I hate to beat around the bush again...

But... Just struck me that within the Video IFO file, I can actually make it so that it directly plays the correct title set instead of the Menu. Given that the menu does not work in some cases and it does in some and also the different DVD players may have issues, would you think this would work by changing the JumpTo Title to the movie title set?

I just did that during lunchtime but didn't have enough time to wait for the burn to complete and test. Just curious...

The reason I don't want to use IFOEDIT to remove the extras and creating new IFO files was because I had a lot more issues going that route in the past where DVD will freeze constantly all the time and it was a nightmare. Now my process is almost down to a few simple steps and I don't mind just changing that setting in the video IFO so that it goes and plays directly the correct Title Set. Unless, DVD players will scan the entire IFO file and as you said the butchered pieces will lock or cause issues with the player.
