    BombJack
    Side Arms
    Paperboy
    Kung fu Master
    Commando
    Super Qix

StreetFighter 2 (i can't believe nobody has mentioned the most revolutionary game of the last 15 years) whatever incarnation i will never get bored of this game.

Oh man this is bringing back some memories - this list took 15mins to type because its such a difficult question and saying what the best 10 is hard - i couldn't name my favourite

  2. I would definately recommend Mame, I have managed to get a hold of about 1200 roms. Tron and Galaga are ultimately my favorite, but I also like track and field, Trojan was always good, little Ghost and Goblins.

    damn, almost forgot Bombjack!!

here's a question - there was a game that was one or two players, you were dressed like an explorer at the bottom of the screen, and large balloons would come falling at you.

You had to shoot a spear gun or something to pop a large balloon into two smaller balloons, then pop them into two smaller, etc. etc.

Anyone remember the name of this game, or better yet have the rom for it?

  9. I loved SATAN'S HALLOW. Was like Space Invaders and Galaga combined. The game became wicked hard in just a couple rounds. Others I liked were Galaga, Omega Race, Bump N Jump, Joust 2, ....damn I went through a lot of quarters now that I think of it.

Favorite NES Game is Zelda, and my favorite arcade game of yester year is Spy Hunter.

  11. legend of Zelda on NES was my 2nd favorite...very close to Metroid..but Metroid takes it...I was almost always the first in my neighborhood to beat those NES games, and when I destroyed the Motherbrain within a few days of having Metroid...that was somethin' else. Castlevania is probably tied at 2nd though with Zelda.

Spyhunter was good..not a favorite of mine, but I always loved the smoke screen and oil slick options....

I'm surprised not a single person mentioned Donkey Kong as their favorite. Or even Donkey Kong Jr. or Donkey Kong 3. I loved all of those too..especially Donkey Kong 3...that game got really popular really fast and was at all Arcades and Skating Rinks..etc...at least down here.

I always liked Galaga. There was also a game that was kind of fun I played a few times called "Ajax", sort of a top-view 2D flying game, shoot other aircraft and ground targets.

You can get some of the old arcade games for both PC and game consoles with the "Atari Anniversary Edition" and "Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits" collections. Of course, mapping the specialized controls from an arcade cabinet to another input device doesn't always work too well....

Out of those DK variations, I think I preferred Donkey Kong 3, but all of them are a blast!
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

Yep, anytime I couldn't jump on Pole Position..remember that one....then I would just go right to either Donkey Kong or Jr.

Also suprised nobody mentioned Q-Bert. That game took skill, especially when getting to the last five stages or so where the blocks needed like four or five colors to get the one you need....can you say "pattern"..lol.

  17. The best Arcade game ever had to be the 4 player Simpsons arcade game, beat that game way too many times. As for NES it has to go to Super Dodge Ball.

  18. My favorites were:
    1.Missle Command
    2.Asteroids
    3.Afterburner
    4.T2
I had a friend that worked at Malibu Grand Prix(arcade)and he would give me handfulls of tokens and go-kart passes.
    Ahhh those were the days.

  19. I always liked TURBO

    some other favorites were:
    Pole Position
    Frogger
    Tempest

If the arcade happened to have an air hockey table I'd play that instead of the video games

Missile command. You know the one with the big ball that you spin. I loved that game. Also Defender was good but a 25cents a pop a couldn't afford to get good.
    This is so much fun!

    My vote goes to

    TEMPEST!

That thing could scream with vector graphics when all the competitors were cludging along with ugly 16 color bitmaps.

2nd vote would be Sonic, the Hedgehog. Good bonding with my son, and good music at the time.

lol..yep..Defender was a Bitch to say the least! It was fun and took good hand/eye coordination....I never really got into defender in the "arcade" as much as I did on my Atari system. Defender and Asteroids I used to destroy on my Atari...but one thing
about Defender that used to pump me up was the damn music...Man those explosions and shit were crazy....John Williams sound there....

another game with that John Williams sound was "ROBOTRON!" BOYYYY would I waste quarters/tokens on Robotron...can't believe I didn't mention that one as one of my favorites...probably because it was a little bit too "repetitive." But that music and those explosions used to pump me up....you had to give me 50 feet on a game like Robotron for sure! lol...and now that i'm thinkin' of it..."BEZERK" was also the SHIT! Damn, I wonder which one I liked playing more...Robotron or Bezerk.....that's a tough one! 8)

Does Anyone have one of these, or know anybody that owns one of these bad boys? I think I am gonna have to get one of these....they just look too toooo smooth!

Strange nobody's mentioned Super BreakOut yet - That's where my "1-kronor" went after the pinball era.
Of course Pong, that set it all off must be mentioned.
Bubble Bobble must be the game I've played most (on my Atari ST). Me and my girl friend used to sit down in front of the TV right after getting home from work (we'd just moved in together, no kids...) and play in two player mode until bed time, for at least 3 months before beating the last level. (No save game.)
I think we'd been able to play the first 10 levels blind folded, and we knew exactly where Bub or Bob would be on screen, just by listening to the synchronized "clic-clac" of our joysticks micro switches. Ah... Those where the days!

  24. Galaxian and Asteriods

Still play them both on my home arcade cabinets. Except now I can open them up and get all my quarters back!

For me it would have to be PONG! I would wait in line for hours just to play it. Amazing that a little electronic blip was all the rage.

Does anyone remember an arcade game that has you as a soldier that moves up the screen armed with only a single shot rifle. During the course of the game, you can get grenades, an armored vehicle, a tank? I also remember you could also capture an enemy tank and use it against the enemy. I thought the name was Combat! but apparently that is another game.
    Hello.

  28. They had that also for the ColecoVision game. I think it was Frontline but not sure.

    How about Carnaval?

Or if you had a Coco, PacTac or Junior Revenge?
