  1. bob, all i was suggesting is, get the sony repaired, then sell it, IF you feel the pioneer is a better unit. Just to save money that is. I know all to well how expensive the darn thing is. If its only amonth old, you should get it repaired. Get some money back on the drive, then buy the pioneer.

I dont know about the quality of the drive is across the board, for me, so far so good, i dont burn that many discs a month as i have about 500gig of hdd space so i only archive stuff maybe 1-2 discs a week. Maybe you pushed it too far? I dont really know. People generally come to these forums when they have problems with their burners. I come here to get a headsup on anything incase something goes wrong etc plus to get peoples opinions etc on dvd media.

If i were to buy another drive again, id probably save my cash and just get the pioneer as it seems the dvd-r format is the way things are going. For write once media, i prefer dvd-r, for RW media, i prefer +RW as its slightly faster than 2x.

Anyway, just get the unit repaired and sell it is all im saying, even half the price you bought it for would be a good deal providing it is working.

follow through with the repair/cust service thing until it isn't worth your time (that is how I have learned to deal with Sony tech support)

one time they lost my laptop (it was under warranty and the screen went bad so I sent it to them)

they sent me the power cable, and I never heard from them again.

THE ONLY REASON I GOT IT BACK WAS BECAUSE OF UPS - they had the package record and it stated the package was like 8 ounces - it ended up being my proof that there was no way that the Laptop was in the box (they said it was all in there together.)

of course, this was after 3 months had gone by.

ONCE YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGH - pick up an A05/105:

I have 2 pioneer drives and have burned 450+ DVD-Rs. My friend has a Sony +- and it died after 20 burns. Now HE has a Pioneer.

Yeah if I had my way I would buy all this electronic and computer crap at BestBuy as they will take anything back with zero questions. Problem is they didn't have the Sony when I wanted one so I bought it online as no one in Reno, Nevada had them.
