I have a Sony NS700P home standalone DVD player hooked up to my 57" Widescreen. Does anyone have the same DVD player? My DVD burner is the NEC 1100 that comes with the Dell Dimension 8250. Does anyone know if there are certain blank DVD media that will work better with my DVD player? I hear that certain brands don't work well with certain DVD players, so I'm trying to find out which one is best for me. Thanks for any help.

I have an HP DVD200i and I have burned over 75 Verbatuims and I think they are great, plus you can get a 30 pack at Sams club for $49.86.

Any brand of DVD+R that works well in your burner is the best IMO. For the most part I have had few media problems except for the Verbatims I bought from BestBuy that had bubbles and/or voids near the disc edges.

Zero Defex: £1.20 (+R)
Zero Defex: £2.50 (+RW)
To be fair they are the only ones i've tried. Their cheap (for UK) and had no probs at all - no need to try anything else!SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

i agree with bobw, i've had good luck with verbatim dvd+r discs, dvd-r discs too.
if i'm burning ps2 games or data discs i'll go with dvd+r cos they burn fast and work with my ps2.
as far as movies go i like verbatim dvd-r because they're supposedly more compatible. -
I have Sony dru 120 (2.4x) and I have used Memorex , Fuji, and Verbatims only. I have 100% success with Fuji ONLY. Memorex discs had a lil problems (problems burning the actual media not playin it, ) and Verbatims nearly same as Memorex.
Memorex was $99 for 50, Verbatims were 15 for $45 and Fuji was $79 for 50.
Holy crap, the only ones that were 100% were the cheapest!!!! go figure!
Ive burned hundreds and hundreds of different DVDs to these media, its only my experience tho!
Playback with all three media brands was fine for all my newer Sony DVD players and my Apex 2100. One point, some others may not agree: If u r burning a ****load of DVDs, and you are concerned about them playing in your DVD player, realize this: after buying a five hundred + blanks, the money u spend on discs that are compatible with your player could be put toward ANOTHER DVD player that can play the cheaper discs equally well! Just a thot...

Another vote for Verbatim.

P.S.- i consider memorex dvd-r's to be horrible. out of 20 of the discs i purchased, only 3 worked.

Yep, never had a single problem burning to Verbatim +R's. Play perfectly on my Pioneer standalone player & the PS2.
Avoid Intensio discs though, they play fine on my PC but I get massive picture breakup & stutter on my standalone player!! -
I have been using Verbatim DVD-r 2x and DVD+r 2.4x mostly because they work, they burn every time, They play in My Sony & Apex DVD players, and just as important to me, I hate online shopping so I can go to BestBuy ( I know!) and walk out with them in my grubby little hands right now!!
I haven't seen the bubbles talked about above in them, Those I would have returned as defective right away
I don't recall Sony player model# 5 dvd changer & I'm at work.
Hope this helps

I"ve been burning a couple of movies and noticed that Verbatim +RW disks work on my Sony NS700P standalone DVD player, but Verbatim +R disks DO NOT work. I use the same exact movie, same exact software, but just the +RW disks work. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about Ritek media? I just recently ordered a 25 pack spindle for $53.99 and hope that they are good disks. Does anyone have experience with them?
