It's a big BUG and stays with you for life. But even being in the union was no garauntee. I quit because when the contract for the new 6plex was signed. I saw the writing on the wall. We split the shift with managment. So we lost half the shifts there. And being low on senority list and nobody retiring and other theatres closing. No place to go. And now all the old theatres are gone. Have a 16plex, 14plex. 2 6plex, 4plex and a triplex left. And one of the 6plex is going to be torn down as is the mall it's in.

I got one trailer film 2000' (20min) made it up for testing. Never showed for anything else. Several places had plywood that would fit ontop of the platter and two people could move it to another platter. I also used pizza spatulas to pick up a film and with help move it 1500' to the other booth. And running between booth ya wore running shoes. Dodging people and cars while getting the keys out for the booth. Main complaint was sound was to low. That was at the outdoors. Sound system was mono and films were in dolby surround stereo. Also at outdoors people would knock off the tops of speaker posts and when you set the speaker back down it would short the 70 volt feed and distorte sound. Then you would go to the switch panel and start turning 1 row off at a time until distortion stopped. Then goto that row and look for the short. And had to watch for the wasps too. Got stung a few times.

I knew this one guy who had 2 projectors set up in his garage. He also worked for the Local CBS affilate in South Bend. I thought if I ever won the lottory I would start my own theatre. Now I am not so sure? I would definatly set up a good home theatre.
