  1. Hi all!

I use ffmpegX to create a divX (using mencoder) an from extracted .vob. I have installed the appropriate font. Can someone be kind enough to explain how I can encode a divX with subtitles?

    Thanks for the help.

Select subtitle in audio option and choose the track you wan to encode minus one. Example, if the french subtitle track is the second in your VOB file, select 1.

  3. That works OK but I have to encode directly from the DVD.
Is that possible from an extracted .VOB and an .spc file?

  4. The easiest way to access ffmpegX's subtitle option is to create a VOB using OSeX -- rip one VOB that contains the video, audio, and subtitle track together. Not a separate subtitle .SPC file.

Load 'er up into ffmpegX. As Paul said, as you're setting your encoding options, pop on over to the AUDIO tab and check the SUBTITLE box. If you've included only one subtitle track in your VOB, then the default track number "0" is correct.

"Sub palette" can be useful in getting the correct colors for your subtitles, but that can still be a challenge. Copy the VTS*.ifo for the titleset of your movie (if your original disk had your movie as the VTS_02_0.VOB set, for example, copy the VTS_02_0.ifo into your directory, and choose that file for the "sub palette."

If the colors come out weird, try it without any file loaded as a subtitle palette, or try one from another disk (I keep a half dozen in a folder and try them all until I get one that isn't green & red....)

In the options tab, make sure that the MPLAYER box is selected, as this is the tool that scrapes the subtitles out of the video.

  5. Works very well. Thank You
