Hi everone: i would like to know if i can capture an avi file with the same mb,s as a mpeg1 file? i have a averdvd ezmaker card which works very well too capture mpeg1 in realtime which is 10 mb,s per minute. i woud like to know if i can capture a avi file with the same mb,s per mintue. i have virtual VCR installed and have tryed to get a file with the same mb,s per mintue but don't know which code to capture with in a compressed format? also would like to know if the quality would be any better with a avi vers. realtime capture. thanks for any information. bob

  2. well yes you can capture to avi at that desired filesize but the quality would be debatable for sure. 1. you could use picvideo mjped with a low low quality setting to obtain your desired filesize or 2.use the divx codec with adjusted bitrate to capture to avi. you would probably need a pretty powerfull pc to cap to divx in real time. then you would have to worry about the audio. you could try to cap to mp3. i have tried this method with limited success usually resulting in desync and low quality at real time low bitrate capture. but quality is in the eye of the heholder as we all know. but i would not use either option for archiving for sure. infact i always favor capturing with huffy or mjpeg quality 19 if low diskspace then encoding to my desired format *usually divx*. take a little longer but better quality by far. good luck maybe someone else can give you a more optimistic option. peace
