I've downloaded several newsgroup files that state "VCD ready" thinking they're mpg files. Instead, they are .bin and .cue files. What exactly are they? Are they the product of writing an mpg to a CD when using a VCD Authoring tool? In otherwords, to turn these files into playable VCDs, what do I have to do? Thanks in advance!

Makes sense, but what do I do with them? Copy them directly to the CD? Or do I have to "open" them using some VCD authoring tool?

or burn in Nero or Roxio
close the wizard (in Nero), selct BURN IMAGE from under File, select the cue file

make sure you have both the bin/cue's in tha same dir and named the same with the exception of the extension

    ie

    movie01.cue and movie01.bin
    movie02.cu and movie02.bin

They are disc images of an already authored disc.

You can extract the contents via IsoBuster, or use VCD Gear.

Another excellant multiplatform disc image creator and burning utility is Alcohol 120 % - not bad to drink either
