  1. I am doing movie-only backups of DVDs. I am attempting to use DoCCE4U, and the resulting quality is very, very poor. These are the steps I take (most are from Doom9's guide http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/cce-advanced.htm) :
    1) Using DVD Decrypter, I demux the main movie to an m2v, and the main 2 and 6 channel ac3 files.
    2) Open the m2v file with DVD2AVI and create a project file.
    3) Create an Avisynth file as shown in Doom9's guide.
    4) I then open the avs file in DoCCE4U and create my job.
I have tried both the "Robshot-Bachman" template, and the Multipass VBR template. I set the bitrate so the resulting file is 4300mb minus the size of any audio files I have. I have tried from 2 to 5 passes. All other settings I leave as is. The resulting quality is AWFUL! Very jittery, especially during high-motion scenes.
To contrast, up until this point I follow the guide posted on this site to use DVD2SVCD to transcode the m2v, and the quality is excellent. I just feel there are several time-consuming steps in that process that are totally unnecessary.
Has anyone any experience with DoCCE4U that can offer some guidance? Please no suggestions for other tools like DVD2DVDR.

  2. VinnySem,
I haven't used Doitfast4u or DoCCE4u, though I have downloaded them because they looked interesting. I would post over at Doom9 where you got the program, because it seems most guys here DO not use CCE. I have graduated to CCE and do it for all of my movies now because it has become so easy. Let me suggest a different method for you that may interest you. I will abbreviate because i will assume a certain level of knowledge from you, but if you have questions just ask. A couple of points first:
    1. Main proggies are DVD2one/CCE/DVD Maestro
    1. It uses DVD2one to reduce the EXtras...VERY FAST!! It freakin rocks!
    2. This method will do ALL DVD's including MULTI PGC/Seamless branching ones because it keeps same DVD structure.

-Rip in FILE MODE all of DVD
-Use BARRYHL's GUIDE on this site (go to the guides section) to reduce the XTRAS with DVD2one
-Do not touch main movie yet and bring it all back together with IFOupate/IFOedit (its a pretty slick and FAST method for reducing your extras) Test Result before going on with WinDVD or PowerDVD.
-Frameserve main movie into CCE using the VFAPI or AVISYNTH method. An AWESOME guide for this is here in "FLASH" format so you can follow how the guy does it step by step as he talks. Do it 2 times and you'll have it memorized. http://www.dvd2dvdr.com/Flash.htm
    Use the *CCE advanced* section
    -Run PULLDOWN
-Run Chapter Xtractor. This will PREVENT you from manually typing in each chapter LOL. Goto Format tab and click "OPEN IFO". Goto ORIGINAL VIDEO_TS folder double click that. Select VTS_01.0.IFO file and click OK. Under PRESETS-Choose DVD Maestro as output type.
Click SAVE DATA and save as whatever name you wish and as FILE TYPE "Maestro (*.chp). (NOT A TEXT FILE). Your done.
-Goto http://www.mpegit.net/eng_DVD-R_2.htm and follow this guys method for using Maestro....its like 4 clicks and your done! Heck, you can even use his guide, it's basically what I've just told you. He even tells you how to use Subtitles, though I don't do it.
-Lastly, join this final output from Maestro back into the Original movie folder (renaming vts files to whatever they were originally). Run IFOUPDATE/IFOEDIT
    _Burn baby burn....

Hey if you have any questions, where to get the programs I mentioned, or whatever, email me at benfedex@hotmail.com

    Good luck man :P

  3. Thanks for the tips, TeFLoN. What I'm going to try is follow the CCE section on MPEG-it, I'm really only interested in keeping the main movie and the 2-channel and/or 6-channel Dolby digital audio. I'd rather use the disk space for bitrate and quality on the part of the main movie. I keep the 2 audio files because right now I don't have a full-blown home theater (yet ), and 6-channel seems kinda thin on my system in just stereo. In Maestro I make the 2 channel audio the main audio format, and the 6 the secondary.

I tried to post over at Doom9, but they make you wait 5 days to make a post in their forum .
