the commercial dvds have them ....can i add my own audio soundtrack as an optional feature length commentary like family discussing the videos?like i put the dvd in, menu comes up and a choice of main feature or scene selections or view movie with audio commentary(home made)? what stream does the audio has to be in specifics?

Of course its possible, you just need to use an authoring app that supports multiple soundtracks. AFAIK, the directors commentary tracks are a completley seperat audio stream from the main audio. Generally, you would take a copy of the main audio, set it to low volume level and dub your commentary over the top. The use this as a 2nd, selectable audio track. Like all DVD audio tracks its must be 48Khz, and PCM, AC3 or Mp2 format.
Unfortunatley I can't think of any consumer level authoring apps that support multiple selectable soundtracks. Proffessional level apps like Maestro do if you can 'afford'them!
