    I encoded some MPEG-1 video with NERO and tried with TMPG-free and when it's done encoding there are lines going diagonally through the video!

    any advice?

    Huh? What did you encode with Nero? What did you encode with TMPGEnc?

    try watching the burned clip on your computer, do you still see the lines? are they in the original? please post a sample of the lines, it'll help.

    yeah I watched it and the lines are there when it encodes, I'll try and post an image.
