  1. got some older files here ('wicked') that played well in the passed, tried to open it recently, and (you guessed it) doesn't play anymore... fourcc=mp43, got most codecs installed, but nothing swallows it...

could this be one of the early mp43 encoded files that ms stopped supporting? if so, how to play it?

(as i said, it once worked, but i've been seriously messing around with my machine lately)

  2. I have the old mp4 codecs, v1,2, and 3. It might do the trick. It's only 136k zipped, so let me know if you want it emailed or something.
    Happy to be here.

Just use GSpot (find it in the TOOLS section) to identify the exact codec used in your AVI.

I have the same problem. It is from a newer version of a codec. You can change the 4cc and it will play. Stangely, I can open them in VDUB but not any players, and it tries to d/l the M$ codec, succeeds but can't render.

  6. What I would do is download and install ffdshow, and then bring up it's configuration screen. Here you can tell it what codecs to handle, including the mp4X MS codecs, this will force directshow to decode these files using a standard MPEG4 decoder, which should (and has for me) work just fine.

    Hope this helps,
