  1. Well, once again i've seen something new. I'm trying to rip Blair Witch II which is a DVD-5 at about 4.31 GB's. When DVD DECRYPTOR gets to exactly 49% of the total rip, I see the CRACKING CSS bar go up and it goes through the entire process then I get the BRUTE FORCE CRACKING FAILED message. The message then specifies my LITE-ON drive and says "THERE WERE NO VULNERABLE BLOCKS."

I have NEVER seen that message before, so I figured I would try Smart Ripper. Smart Ripper immediately reads all the files so I use "BACKUP" mode and when Smart Ripper gets to 49%, the cracking screen comes up and continously goes through the entire cracking process for about 10 minutes. I finally cancelled it because it was obvious the same thing happened.

UPDATE: I've just researched here and doom9 and the author of DVD DECRYPTOR states that it is definitely an issue with LITE-ON 165 AND 166 drives. He says the next release of DVD DECRYPTOR should fix the problem. Smart Ripper apparently will work after about ten minutes. I don't know if I will try that or just rip the one problem VOB with my SONY burner.

More interesting is that I haven't seen more people with this problem on this forum when I know from the LITE-ON threads many people have the 165 and 166 drives. My drive is the 166S and ripping speeds are insane, and this problem is the first one i've seen like it, in about 20 movies. Anybody have any more info on this issue and what could potentially cause the LITE-ON 165 and 166 drives to have this problem on rare DVD's?

  5. what's up "MG"...luckily for you..you don't have the issue. It isn't just with DVD DECRYPTOR though because Smart Ripper stops at the same point and starts looking for a "key." Apparently if I wait 10 minutes or so it will find a key. I would rather just rip the problem VOB which is the "third" VOB on the disk..with my Burner and burn the rest of the files in file mode in DVD/DEC.

P.S. If you haven't seen it already, check out my last post or two from the "media" section and those ultra slimline jewel case insert from Neato/Fellowes. They are a "miracle" for me. If you store ANY media in slimline Jewel Cases, you should look no further for labels. Also, Neato/Fellowes have the smoothest/nicest slim jewel cases I've seen. They are constructed better then those black ones and they have like four different colors in the 50 pack bundle.

Each of the colors is "tinted" so it REALLY looks nice when you put the cases in their storage compartment.

  7. Well I just confirmed it..it looks like they're right over at DOOM9 and it is the 165 and 166 drives. Or at least those are the ones this "could" happen on. As I said it is very rare apparently, but I'm still curious as to why it only happens every so often. I've just ripped the problem VOB with DVD DECRYPTER with my SONY DRU500AX and it ripped between 2.0x and 2.1x. The entire rip took 6:27. Not too shabby for one VOB. This is really interesting to know why this occurs with these drives, because Smart Ripper will also stop on the same VOB.

At least I have an alternate means to circumvent this problem, should it occur again, but i'm still interesting in knowing more about it and why it occurs. If anyone can supply any info, it would be appreciated it. Thanks in advance

  8. defense,

If it makes you feel any better, I too have the same problem with my
LITE 166. Some DVD's work fine and others don't. Until they come out with a fix I will continue to rip movies with my burner instead.

That really makes my day...thanks...lmao...no..I know the cause of the issue now, I am just curious as to why it happens. Until someone has some insight on it and comments, I guess I won't know. "Lightning" over at DOOM9, who is a mod over there as well as the author of DVD Decryptor states that his next release of DVD DECRYPTOR will rectify this problem. Until then, there is no reason to rip an entire DVD with your burner. Simply burn the problem VOB with the burner and rip the rest at 5-7.5 times the speed of your burner and save your burner from ripping in the process.

  10. I have had a bunch of movies do this to me with my 166. I use smart ripper for the movies I get that error message with and it works fine. Hope they come out with a fix soon cause I prefer dvd decrypter.

  11. I also had this problem with a few discs. Upgraded my 166s to latest firmware and have not had this problem since. I even re-ripped 2 of the discs that originally failed with success.

Where did you find the latest firmware?

    Thanks

  13. I also upgraded to the latest firmware (DS14) and it still is not working for
me. If there is another updated firmware for this product I would like to know also.

I too have DS14 and the problem is there, but to me it isn't a big deal because there are a few ways around it. There will be an adjustment in DVD DECRYPTOR apparently for it's next release which will permanently prevent this problem from occurring when using DVD Decryptor, so it's all good.

  15. I too have a Liteon 166S and love it. However, I must admit that my Sony DRU500A is much more reliable for reading scratchy DVDs. Quite often the Liteon will fail but so far my Sony have NEVER failed reading a DVD, no matter what the condition. I prefer to copy in ISO mode so when the Liteon fails I switch to the Sony and make the image that way. Very slow ...

I do wish this issue could be improved by Liteon.

Just to add my $.02 . I bought the Lite-on 166 to take some of the work off the Sony. It ripped the first couple movies with dvd decrypter just fine. I really like the 6x rip speeds compared to the Sony 2x. Now it pretty much has the problem on every movie. I now only get to really use it when using dvdxcopy.

humm, that sux....out of 22 movies now, this problem has only occurred on one, and the one movie it occurred on, I just simply ripped that problem vob with my SONY DRU500AX.

I wouldn't use my burner for ripping too often..but that's just me. But once in a blue moon for one VOB won't hurt anything. On DVD-5's I almost always get up to 15.4x rip speeds as well....wonder why you are only getting 6x max.
