  1. I have a Pioneer 104. I want to know which blank media is best to use. Is there a "short list" based on media speed and compatibility? The media section lists every disk known to man... I just want to know the best 2x and 4x to use for compatibility while also considering the price... Thanks

  2. Almost impossible to answer as everyone had different criteria. The DVD Players that you will be playing on also makes a difference as to which media is better.

I have a Cendyne/Pioneer DVR-104 and DVR-105 and 2 Sony DVD Players and an Old RCA DVDPlayer and I like TDK 2x, others say they are tooo pricey.

I have to agree with gcutler.

i have not had one single problem with the TDK 2x media.

I burn with a Sony DRX-500UL and it plays back flawlessy on my Sony PS2 and DVP-C660.

You can find them for $40 for 15...
    Use what works for you...

Sadly I can't seem to find the 40 (or is it 50) spiindle for a more cost effective price than the 15 @ $40.

    Does Taiyo Yuden made DVD-R's?

All the DVD-R's (and +'s. etc) appear to be made in Taiwan. Can I get some that are from Japan?

Whatever you do do not buy Princo's. Search for many threads on that topic.

I have had no issues with Ritek's. They seem to be the best inexpensive media while still maintining quality.

Yes, Taiyo Yuden makes discs, but I believe they're over 2.00 each.

See meritline.com or to the left under DVD Media

Pioneer 104 doesnt burn at 4x

I have mixed feelings about princo.....the 1x certifid Princos are crap but I havent had any problems with the 2x certified Princos. and i have burned ALOT of stuff on 2x and 1x Princos as well as Ritek silvers and golds

other than that u can by 1x riteks and with a firmware hack u can burn these stable at 2x......WWW.QTCCDR has riteks for as cheap as $1.05

they are located in santa ana california., I dont know about their shipping rates since I work down the street from them I'm able to walk there and get what ever I want

  8. I have to give my nod to the Ritek G03's. No, they are not the best media that you can buy, but for just over a dollar a disk and the ability to burn at 2x with the hack, I think they're great. I have yet to burn one that would not play on my standalone perfectly. However, you do have to be careful who you buy from. I think that's just as important as what you buy. I got mine at Rima and have been satisfied, but I've heard to stay away from Allmediaoutlet.

I was dumb enough to buy 50 PRINCO DVD-RW's for my first purchase and had a success rate of less than 50:50. I didn't know about this Forum at that time. DON'T BUY PRINCO
    This is so much fun!

Any local retail places that carry the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's?

I only need to to make a few DVD-R's, so the extra $1/disc doesn't matter to me. I'm not buying a DVD recorder anytime soon, just using the one at my friends to make a couple of discs. And what brand name are the TY's marketed under?

If you want very high quality and do not mind paying for it try Apple DVD-Rs, they are 2x and you can get 5 for about 15 dollars. Also Verbatims are awsome for most.

However, if your trying to ride that price/performance line then Ritek G03 all the way.

  13. Hmmmm..... I almost use nothing but princos cause they are cheap. about 1us. No problems except when doing disc to disc. Don't know the reason? Don't have time to test. But I do perfer Riteks. They have a darker dye. PS2 likes those disc lots. But those are 1.40us. I do burn them 2xs. I have to finish using the Princos. I bought alot cause the price was going to go up alot. Haven't tried other disc. Like they say "if it works don't try to fix it."

Have you tried the Princo DVD-RW. I bought 50 for my first purchase from Meritline and they have worked horribly. On several disks half way through a burn on Prassi, it will kick out the dvd and give some error. Maybe I got a bad batch.
    This is so much fun!
