  1. i am trying to use the Cinema Craft Encoder. but, this is probably a dumb question, but how do you use it? i have read about 2-pass and 3-pass and i'd like to see if i notice a difference in quality compaired to TMPGE 2-pass. files i am trying to encode are AVI but it keeps telling me the files aren't ELC for the encoder. also, i am now able to capture a perfect file in AVI format. i've read just about all the suggestions and i have tried probably over 200 different ways to encode it with TMPGE. my ultimate goal is to have THE BEST quality picture with 45 min on a 80 min cdr. so far i havn't accomplished my goal. if anyone has any suggestions i'd appreciate it. i've tried cbr, vbr, auto, tried useing all kinds of settings for bitrate. files i'm encodeing are capture files from satelite. AVI files of course...... thanks

  2. ecl is the CCE save file/setting format. You want to add an AVI not open it. Anyway take a look at:

    http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce_guide.htm

I strongly recommend using VDub to demux the video from the audio, and only using CCE to encode the video. CCE's audio encoding sucks. Use tooLame to encode the audio, then mux with bbMPEG.

Speed wise CCE is MUCH faster than TMPGenc. On my Tbird 1.2Ghz CCE at 3pass VBR (ie. 4 passes, the first is a CBR pass to write the VAF file) is about the same speed as TMPGenc 2pass VBR.
