  1. Can someone tell me whats wrong with my sony drive!? When I try to burn a dvd using veritas record now it says after a while, after tried to write lead-in, "Read error. error -10 in sector bla bla bla ...". Nero says "there is problem reading the disk do u want to contiune" and if I press yes the recording soon fails with a "power calibration error".
I had no problem what so ever burning the first 10 discs but then these errors started to encounter and now i can almost not burn any disk!! Someone got a clue what can be wrong!? Tried different fw and now im using 2.0e. Hope u got a good answer on my problem! btw nothing is written on the dvdr so they are still empty after the errors.

Have you tried the "Sony DriveCheck Diagnostic Test" Utility which can be found at http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru500adwn.htm This is the Sony Utility that you're suppose to use to see if your drive is bad or not. This would tell you if your problem was hardware.

  5. Possibly it is the brand of media you are using,i had very similar problems with pioneer A04 writer, pretty much the same error actually,i've found since then using different brands of dvd media has temporarily solved the problem, done 70 discs with no errors since then, but i know i will get errors again if i change back to the previous discs i was using.

I had that same "calibration error" and I could not burn anything after that so I had to return mine for a new one.
