The first proper release version of (S)VCD2DVDMPG is out & ready for download. Version 1.0 adds several new features over previous beta versions, including: VCD support & sequence header patching of entire files.

(S)VCD2DVDMPG helps users turn (S)VCD content into DVD compliant assets, ready for authoring DVDRs. It automates the following steps:

    - rip (S)VCD .bin images to mpgs
    - demux mpgs to elementary streams (ES)
    - resample the audio ES from 44.1 KHz to 48 KHz
    - patch the video ES/PS to DVD horizontal resolution
    - optionally remux the ES streams into a mpg program stream (PS)
    - Repatch VOB files after DVD authoring

The tool is a GUI front-end for the following command line tools:

    - BeSweet
    - MpegTx
    - Mjpegtools
    - VCDImager

The authors of these tools deserve the credit.

www.svcd2dvdmpg.com has guides & info to compliment the download.

  2. Just had a couple questions, can you put VCDs and SVCDs on the same disk? Also will the SVCD guide work for vcds as well? Great program, this has been needed for a long time.

VCDs & SVCD can be put on the same disk if your authoring software supports this. DVDMaestro does, for example. My guess would be that single title set authoring packages (e.g movie factory) would have problems - but i may be wrong.

Guide will work for VCDs - just miss out step 4. (Getting started page tells you that this is only required for SVCDs)

sparker: does it continue afterwards? If you watch the directory does an mpeg file get produced?

  9. I think this usually means that the mpg stream itself is messed up. I had a similar error with the 2nd disk of a set; the mpg ends up truncated as a result.

  10. Yes, an mpeg gets produced, and when I stop the process, what it has done seems to play ok. But I get screens and screens full of the error.

  12. Hi there,

first let me thank CB for this great tool! I spent quite a bit of my spare time in trying to convert old SVCDs to DVD after having bought a DVD-RW drive. Now with SVCD2DVDMPEG it's on its way to getting just a walk in the park. I just need a little more Ifoedit/Vobedit practice to get predictable results.

@sparker: I had those mpeg scan errors with some SVCD stuff as well, and they all disappeared after re-reading the same SVCDs in my Toshiba 5002 burner instead of my tatty LiteOn DVD drive. I use VCDEasy's tools-section to create .bin files.

    Have a nice one,

  13. Chrissyboy - xcellent program , I've a question for u in regards of maestro which u may be able to elp, while its compiling the vcds I've put on it seems to lock up in the same position before it's finished on disc 6, is it due to the actual vcd or is there something in maestro i can do to sort it. Any ideas ??

fatbloke: We did run into this issue with one of the beta testers. It seemed that he was authoring VCDs of TV Eps. Such sources are renound for been cut(commercial breaks etc) and so lend themselves to authoring problems. The same user had no issues with Maestro when using more traditional movies sources.

Conclusion was that is was more likley to be the source than a setting in Maestro....

  17. Lowlander2, I haven't ripped the bin from a disc, it's one I downloaded. And it's not SVCD it's VCD. Maybe it's just this one, I'll try another later.

  19. Maestro doesn't take mpeg files, just individual streams. De-mux, then add your streams separately.

Vegeta_RVPPC: From the Getting Started section:

The trick to producing a successful DVDR containing multiple (S)VCDs is:

    a) knowing your authoring software and,

    b) know a little bit about basic DVD structure.

    c) NEVER split, join or edit your source mpgs.
sparker is correct. Maestro takes elementry streams. So you either have to demux the dvd ps files you have or run svcd2dvdmpg again and use xxx->ES as an In/Out option - the default.

  21. Im sorry I meant separate streams instead of mpeg. I have tried 3 movies now and I still can't get but only the audio to load in Maestro. It says asset to long in the video. Im converting .bin to m2v and mpv streams and mpa audio. I can load either or but never both. Maestro seems way to picky, but i know its the best authoring program. Is there something I am doing wrong. I have tried patching with 352 and 720 and still have no luck. I know the program works and kicks ass, I just can't seem to get it to work. Is there a certain version of Maestro you tested on? Don't take this as criticism, I just can't get it to work. Please help me, I have read all your guides and forums, just can't catch a break for some reason.

  22. c) NEVER split, join or edit your source mpgs.
I have to say, I regually join my two source mpegs and only occasionally get a problem. If they join and stay in sync, I demux, load into Maestro and have no problems. If they run out of sync on the second part, then I leave them as two files, and link them in Maestro. Its worth it to me because:

    a) 90% of the time it works with no problems.

    b) You can cut out any overlap between the two discs and get a perfect join.

c: No annoying pause when you jump from one disc to the other.

    Thats just my opinion.

  23. @all: I have a slight problem here getting the DVD to work. I ran SVCD2DVDMPEG, fed three pairs of ES into IfoEdit (SpruceUp didn't like the PS) and ended up with three sets of Video_ts. I took the vobs, renamed them to VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB and VTS_01_3.VOB and let Ifoedit create news ifos for them. The resulting DVD plays quite good until the first vob change, which is at 44 minutes. The movie continues, but the player's counter jumps back to 40 minutes, and when I rewind or fast forward, the player jumps to the very beginning of the movie, continuing to count from 40 minutes.

At which stage did I go wrong? I read several guides for joining, tried Vobedit to join clips (in which case the movie stops at the former end of the first vob), but I somehow don't get it.

    Have a nice one,
    Lowlander/2

    SpruceUp takes ES not PS

IfoEdit/Vobedit works fine you just have to be precise: Check the guide by KYUSS http://www.dvd-secrets.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18373/

  26. Upgraded to 2915, and it would let me load all files at the bottom, but when I tried to load the movie in the compiler is where I came up with a new problem.lol. Do I add both video tracks to the same line or bar on maestro. When I tried that it said invalid gop blocks. ANd do I add both audio tracks to the same bar or line. Whne I tried that it wouldn't let me sync the audio? The pogram worked in patching thougha nd audio conversion. Im getting close.

i always use maestro and never ave problems

i change the audio suffix to ac3 and leave the video as it is, the ac3 audio will always be in sync if placed at the start

make sure u only use the mpeg file that ends DVD_m??

  28. Chris,,I noticed that on some svcd's I put in svcd2dvdmpg get out of sync...yes when its transcoding w/ mp2enc to 48khz it shows errors in the stream which probably causes it...I try to fix it but it still gets out of sync... So I tried doing my svcd manually with Tmpgenc and when I demux it and then recode the audio to 48khz with Tmpgenc using the external audio encoder TooLame.exe , then remux it and put it through the authoring program....It comes out fine..no out of sync issues.... but if put the svcd through Svcd2dvd it gets out of sync...Do you think it has 2 do with beSweet or something?....Is there anyway to include and option of switching between any 2 audio encoders? I love your program completely...and made many great dvds....only once in awhile I get one of sync and have to do it manually.....Let me know what you come up with....... Thanks Keith

Sorry, meant ES. Spruce considers my streams invalid. Tried 3 different SVCD sets. Anyway, Spruce might not be my tool, because I'd like the movie to run in one piece. So ifoedit/vobedit should be the path to follow.

Been there, done that, joined my clips, created new ifos. Still got my s/a player (Yamaha 305) jumping/stopping/counting cr*p at the former end of the first vob. Are there any additional steps to get the playing order straight?

    Thx,
