I have a DVD (type Universal Disk Format) that I purchased from someone online. They made it (it isn't a purchased DVD). It is 3.8 GB. I want to make a copy for a friend. Can I simply make a disc image of it with Toast (v 5.1.3) and then burn it to a DVD-R? I have a G4 iMac with a Superdrive so I know I'm supposed to be able to burn DVDs with it.
(I tried following the instructions in thread titled "Easiest DVD9 - DVD5 process I've tried yet!" but for some reason the application 0SEx says I have No Disc and won't allow me to do anything with it.)
Any help would be appreciated. If you need more information, just ask since I'm not sure I wrote down all the info needed.
Thanks,
Lynne

Put in the disc, open toast, select COPY and click on FILE -> SAVE AS DISC IMAGE and there you go!
Hope this helps. -
Oh, one other quick question.... at what speed should I burn at? My drive is capable of 12x but my intuition says I should burn at a much slower rate, like 2x or 4x (which sounds like my computer will be out of commision for a couple of hours!).
Thanks,
Lynne -
DVDs currently only burn at 1x 2x or 4x. Toast will tell you the max your DVD should be burned.

CD and DVD burn speeds are different, so your drive will not burn at 12x. The fastest drives burn DVDS at 2x, which is the same data rate as 16x on a CD.

And so it is OK to burn at whatever my max speed is? I know with VCDs, many people suggest going at a much lower rate than what your drive is capable of. I think mine only burns at 2x, so maybe this question is moot.
Also, is there a list somewhere for recommended DVD-R media? I think I'm going to have to go out and buy some since the only disc I have is the Apple one which came with the machine.
You guys are great! Thanks so much.
