  1. I ripped a .m2v using osex and tried to import into DVDSP. But it says it is a "bad format"

    DVDSP 1.5.2

Any reason why this is happening

    Thanks!

  2. run it through bits which is part of more missing tools.. then it will correct the timecode so dvdsp sees it ok.

as far as why it happens on some stuff, i think its the way osex sometimes misinterpets the file

  3. yes, you need to set the 3:2 pulldown flags in your mpeg-2 file. this tells DVDSP to insert extra frames to go from 24fps (film) to 30fps (video). this is really an oversimplification, but it's all you really need to know.

there's a free program to do this called PulldownX. you can get it at Ross's page (http://homepage.mac.com/rnc/tools.html). there have been some sync problems associated with this app, so you might want to try Mpeg Append, but it costs a lot for what it does (http://homepage.mac.com/DVD_SP_Helper/MPEG%20Append/MPEGAppend.html). a third option might be Gumby (http://gumby.misplacedmac.com/). it has an mpeg fixer option, but I haven't used it.

once you've set the flags, DVDSP will accept the file.

    hope this helps.

Filmrate encoded MPEG-2 on commercial DVDs are already set with 3:2 pulldown flags. The timecode thing mentioned is the issue. Instead of using bits, which never seemed to work for me, I just went into OS 9 and ripped the video out there via DVDExtractor. That proggie seems to be a bit more hearty than 0Sex.

  5. You need the app MPEGAppend. Find it here.....

    http://homepage.mac.com/DVD_SP_Helper

The version for DVDSP 1.2 OS9x is free, but the OSX version costs $49; for this you get the whole MPEG suite, with some useful tools for mpeg2 files......
Be part of the process, not just subject to the outcome.......

  6. I have found that some dvd's have a last chapter which is less than a second long and if you rip it with this chapter DVDSP won't accept it,but if you rip it without this last chapter then it will work fine.I have no idea why this is i can only assume it's somthhing to stop piracy or somthing, maybe this chapter is recorded in a different format?
