I am not a newbie, but I had nowhere else to post this.
I have to reformat my hard drive, and when I do this I want to partition my hard drive so that I can load windows ME on one and then save my video files on the other partition
i have heard that this helps the speed of the computer
please let me know if this is possible because I am sick of my computer problems
by the way, I will install windows ME after i format, if that matters
javpowell
thanks

Sure it is possible, but I don't think, it will speed up the computer. Of course it is usefull to partition the HD, because so it is easy to reformat the boot partition without loss of data. But this is the only reason, at least for me.

Partioning the drive helps from an organization perspective, but not really from a speed perspective, since it's still just the same hard drive.
What you may be referring to is people saying to put the OS on one hard drive and capture video to the other hard drive, which can have a substantial benefit when you have two physical hard drives. -
Its a great idea to partition your hard drive and it will help the performance a little, try keeping the drive defragged.
But for better performance you are best with 2 separate drives preferably on different channels
