  1. I just recently converted a 40MB AVI to a 203MB vcd MPEG with TMPGENC. I have a bunch of the same size AVIs that I want on one vcd, and with this type of conversion, it's not going to happen.

Is there any way to retain the file size and create a VCD quality movie file? I have a Pioneer DV-343 and I need them to be compatible with this player.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  2. Try using the Apex500w method I posted...
If the compatibilty list is correct you can probably use the setting I use....

  3. The size of your source file doesn't matter. What determines the size of the encoded MPEG file is the bit rate you choose. The VCD standard calls for:

    video bitrate = 1150kbit/s
    audio bitrate = 224kbit/s

This works out to 1min = 10MB. It quaility of source, size of source, type of source doesn't matter. Using these bitrates a 74min CDR will hold 74min of video and an 80min CDR will hold 80min of video. If you increase the bitrate you'll get a better quaility MPEG but be able to fit less movie on each disc. You can lower the bitrate to get more movie on each disc, but this will also lower the video quaility.

The reason for the size increase is (most likely) because your source avi is a DivX (MPEG-4) compressed file. You might want to try playing with the bitrate and using either TMPGencs 2pass VBR or CCE's 3-5pass VBR for best results as you lower the bitrate. However, this will take a LOT more time
