I want to convert my AVI files to DVD-R.

I have installed TMPGEnc 2.510 and started following the instructions in
    https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm

The TMPGEnc Project Wizard (1/5) shows a dropdownlist containing
    CBR 3000kbps 120min/4.7GB

however, my dropdownlist only contains the selections:
CBR MPREG-1 Layer II Audio (MP2)
    CBR Linear PCM Audio

    1. How do I get the option "CBR 3000kbps 120min/4.7GB" to show up in my dropdownlist?

    2. Also, how can I convert a 140min AVI onto a 120min DVD-R?

    TIA!

The Wizard in Version 2.510 has been changed to present the best 'standard' settings rather than presenting a list of options.

You firstly choose what audio type you want than proceed to the next steps. When you get to step 4 - Bit Rate Settings you can start to change things from the default standards. To fit the 140min you would drop the bitrate until the graph indicates that it will fit.

If you want to follow the guides, you probably need to get a hold of a previous version of TMPGenc.

    Thanks for the help!

Should I choose PCM or MP2 depending on the length of the movie?
Or is one better or preferred over the other?

Also, what is your preferred authoring tool and your favorite burning tool?

  4. On my computer if I choose mp2 it will crash most of the time. If I choose PCM it does a very nice job. If you want higher video quality you can extract the wav with Virtual Dub, then convert it to mp2 with TMPGEnc or tolame, then encode video only to larger file size with TMPGEnc. Then multiplex and author or use Spruceup or some other program that will multiplex for you when it does the authoring. ............ harrymj3

  5. PCM is uncompressed and takes up loads of space, mp2 is compressed and so takes up a lot less. Use it if your DVD player supports it (only a few NTSC players don't, all PAL players do).

    Hope this helps

Sorry, not too clear was I. I mean use Mp2, mainly because PCM takes up loads of space, so you would have to use lower video bitrate to get the movei to fit, hence lower video quality. Hope this is clear now.
