  1. I have been having problems capturing video above VCD quality from a VCR source. I have used several programs to capture and they all seem to have this issue. But I mostly use and prefer to use Virtualdub. The problem is a lot of noise particularly a horizontal bar about 2/3 up that goes across the screen. The preview window is just fine and has really great picture quality, it is only when I start to capture that I have issues and noise starts to show up.

I asked this forum what they thought and someone kindly explained that it was a grounding problem, and suggested a product that would fix it. I'm sure it would fix it but I don't quite believe it is a grounding issue because it only exibits the problem when I'm capturing. If it was a grounding issue even the preview would be bad. So after playing around I realized it had something to do with the color. I used huffyuv codecs and when I changed the color from RGB24 to YUY2 the bar went away. The only problem is that general static like noise increased. It looks much better but I still think if I understood the problem it could even be cleaner. I believe this confirmed my initial feelings that it isn't a grounding issue or if it is it is only part of the problem.

Has any had a similar experience, or if any one has noise problems when capturing from a VCR try changing the color and see if there are any changes. I would really like to hear a good explanation of what is going on.

Has anyone tried changing the color space to see if it makes a difference? Anybody had similar experiences, I'm sure there is someone who understands what is going on.

i had some weird interference from my graphics card, that only seemed to affect captures, not previews. if i had my graphics card set to 1024X768 then i got rolling bars on my captures, if i set it to 800X600 they disappeared.
now i have a Canopus ADVC-50, so i don't have to worry about this sort of thing any more...

    hi Striker77s,

U/L a pic of your noise.

Make sure you have at least Every provider gives 1 to 2 MB in webspace.
Then, in vdub, open the captured AVI file and press the Ctrl+1 key to copy
to clip board and paste into a PAINT program and save as a JPG. Then..

You can U/L a pic by using this method.

    [mg]mywebspaceURL/~myusername/myPIC.jpg[/mg]

NOTE, replace the mg with img

This way, we can make a better determination as to what your issue is.
