  1. Does anyone know if you can change the aspect ratio of an mpeg2 video without re-encoding it?

    I have the impression that the aspect ratio is just an atribute in the file somewhere.

    Yes you are correct. You can do what you want with pulldown.exe. I suggest you use the gui.

    Or DVDPatcher, or Restream. Some authoring packages scan the whole file and it apparently gets repeated down the line, so you have to run DVDPatcher throughout the file. Other authoring programs only look at the first header and you only need to change it there for those.

    Make sure the framerate is 23.976fps before trying to change the aspect ratio with pulldown.

    Well the source makes no difference if you are just changing the aspect ratio flags, but that is a good point. If your source is 29.97fps or 25fps than you have to tell pulldown not to insert the pulldown flags, because it does so by default.
