I assume you have the Xvid codec installed?..if not get it!
If you have Xvid installed then look in the Xvid folder in your program files...you will see a little application called AviC.exe
Run this program and browse to your movie file...then change both the fields from Xvid to DivX.
Now you should find TMPGenc accepts the movie no problem. -
I had some Xvid problems awhile back.
Problem 1: Sloppy installation of Nimo Codec Pack. Try to install as few codecs as possible. Ideally, try to identify the exact ones you need so as not to load superfluous ones.
Problem 2: I had just loaded a new version of TMPGEnc and forgot to set environmental priorities. See this page:

I find problems occur if you alter the enviromental settings from their defaults...eg jerkiness etc.
I know some say to increase the direct show priority for Xvids...but this just gave me jerky playback.....I'd still recommend using the fourCC changer (AviC.exe)...works every time for me.
