Hi Guys, I've tried searching the web and this forum regarding this problem but haven't had any luck. Basically the real time preview will not work for me no matter what transition I use.
I have followed the help advice on Adobe. Under, Project Settings, Keyframe and Rendering I have selected real time preview, I then add my transition and press enter but the video in the program window just plays exactly as if there are no transitions. All I see is above the video a small white box with a black X in it which appears for the duration of what should be the transition.
The help guide on my version of 6.5 seems to relate to 6.0 and tells me to select preview from RAM which I can't do as the options not there. Maybe I should be selecting something else but I have searched every forum and tried all sorts but nothing works.
Any help would be appreciated.![]()

I get the same results. The "X" is telling you that the transition is not rendered.
My work-around...
1. Right click the bar in the timeline window that is directly above the time bar. (There is probably a yellow bar there.)
2. Select "Render Work Area"
Now it will preview as expected. The work area is shown by the yellow bar and can be resized so that the rendering time is minimal. The red bars just below the yellow bar are showing you the unrendered parts of your timeline. -
Thanks Paul, worked first time.
I will still try and find out why the preview is not working though. Does make me curious as to whether it's a bug or my setup. Thanks for th help.

This is why. I found a post on the Adobe forums which explains why the real time preview wasn't working for me. Here it is:
"in premiere 6.0 the transistions must be rendered before you can see them in real time. Premiere 6.5 will play back realtime previews ONLY if you use the "DV-NTSC Real-time Preview preset in the local project setting. All of the other project settings are rendered, unless you have a dedicated accelerator card, like the pinnacle or canopus"
I had not selected the DV-NTSC when I started my project. Once you have selected DV-NTSC just select real time preview in the project settings, press enter on the timeline at your transition and it should preview in real time.
