I purchased some DVD-RW (DVD-PRO) from Meritline and I haven't had any luck rewriting. Any suggestions to accomplish succesful rewrites? Also whats a good brand for el cheapo DVD-R.

    Thanks in advance,
    This is so much fun!

  2. You need to erase them prior to re-writing them, most software DVD burners can do this (it's the only thing I use Nero for).

Cheapo DVDs. Although there is much debate on this topic I use princo and have had no problems. See the media section to the left for more reviews/opinions. There have been reports of princo burnt discs 'losing data' over time (by time I mean a few wks/months). But it's hard to say if that's true of new discs?!? Any read the media reviews.

  3. I have used RecordNow, Easy CD Creator, and several aurthoring programs to rewrite DVD+RW and DVD-RW so I'm at a loss to understand what problem you could be having.

As for cheap media I have never had a problem in the over 400 discs I have purchased. I usually buy from here http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/P-DVDR-4.7-GEN2Xfree.html or here http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/merexrit4xdv.html

  4. Yes they are able to be rewritten or they wouldn't be DVD-RW. However, I always go for the best brand possible on the DVD-RW since there are so many issues with DVD-R might as well fork out more to get something better that I can reuse many many times.

I bought 2 of the 2X DVD-RW Pioneer branded and they work wonderfully. I have rewritten over them probably over 20 times on each already. And still can burn at 2x and they play pefectly on my Pioneer player.

I usually erase them using NERO and then write them with NERO or DVD Decrypter.

  5. Buy brand name when it comes to DVD-RW, its only one or two dollars more but the problems are significantly less. Besides you only need like one or two of them anyways. I use Maxell DVD-RWs, works great.

I will take you advice. The princo dvd-rw's that I got had several that have not worked very well and for the amount of time that i have wasted the savings hasn't been worth it. What do you recommend for a low cost dvd-r.

    Thanks in advance,

  7. I've been using Princo DVD-RW discs for quite a while now and I've only had one or two discs that couldn't be reused. One unexpected bonus that I discovered is that I am able to burn them at 2X speed using my Pioneer A03 with the hacked 2.0 firmware upgrade. The recordings turn out fine at 2X. I just do a quick erase using Nero and I'm able to reuse the discs over and over again.

One of my friend, used the Princo DVD-RW b4, from his experienced he's not very please with it, cause of the defective rate.

AllMediaOut DVD-R 50pcs for about $44 (free shipping) - good, cheap, i have brought this recently for my Sony DRU-500A.

Ritek DVD-R 50pcs for about $67 (free shipping) - one of the best compability among the unbranded DVD-R.

If you really down for Branded DVD-R, here is the some: (of course the price is abit 'different')
    Maxell 2X DVD-R - from Japan
    Taiyo Yuden 2X DVD-R - from Japan
Pioneer 4X DVD-R - this is the best, sooner or later i'm going to get it.
