  1. Hi all,

I just wanted to know if any of you fans of DVD2one have used it to backup a DVD with Episodes such as the Simpsons, Soprano's etc etc.

Was it easy to do and what was the quality like.

    Cheers

  2. I've tried using it on Tenchi Muyo! Ultimate Edition and while it was very easy to do, the results were less than bearable. What got me really ticked off was the severe amount of macroblocking that showed up. While DVD2One has worked well on movies and kept the picture clean with minimal artifacting, DVD2One's job on my one and only anime test (Tenchi Muyo) was enough to make me decide that I never wanted to try using it for anime ever again. The pictures (most notibly in the Intros) all looked like pieces of graph paper - grids/blocks everywhere that seperated the image into hundreds of pieces.. =(

  3. Thanks for your reply DigiToast.
Maybe when the next version of DVD2one comes out you will be able to remove some of the audio tracks and free up some more space for the movie part.

Does anyone know if animated movies , Such as The Simpsons, Shrek etc etc use more space on a DVD that most other movies. Do they compress as well?

  4. I backed up Shrek movie only (no menus) without compression. Most animation movies will fit (Disney titles, Iceage, Toy Storys, Bugs Life) fit on a single dvdr without having to compress the video if you strip menus and sound tracks. I think that animation compresses pretty well and thats why there are alot of episode dvds with 4 hours of video on them. I think that to try an squeeze anything down thats 4 hours to fit on a single dvd will have some noticable results.

  5. Thanks for your reply,

Backed up a copy of "What Women Want". The results from this were marginal. You could see pixilation in the background.

The DVD for What Women Want was 8gb+ so in effect I was halving the quality. I recommend only using DVD2One for full backups on small DVD's (ie 6gb) such as "The Guru". As yet I have has no problems with the smaller sized DVD's.

Cant wait for the next version of DVD2One to come out. I have heard you will be able to drop some of the audio streams freeing up more space for the movie.

Whilst I bought dvd2one I soon went with Instant Copy 7.
This has the facility to strip unwanted extra's, audio etc and set a pre-determined quality for movies/extra's etc.
A little clearer explanation can be found here

  7. DVD2One v.1.1.1 will work with The Simpsons DVD Season 1&2 but they not let you remove the extra stuff so quality kind like ok .. i use IC7 with the first season but the second season, first 3 disc will work with IC7 and the last one IC7 can't do it so you may have to go with DVD2One or DVD95Copy.
