  1. From VHS to svcd, sys XP1500, 512mb ram, G4Ti 4200, leadtek winfast Xp2000 deluxe using composite input:
    1. Capturing: I can capture normally using winfast software (winpvr)
but using virtual dub the video comes out in B&W or if I
check the preview only top 1/5 th of video avail, the rest
covered with green mesh. Winpvr works ok in any
capture mode i.e avi huffyuv etc.

    2. Coverting: Tmpgenc works normally with capture files using winpvr
(except occasional audio out of sync) but CCE does not
recognised it saying frame rate 10000000/39999899 is not
valid. It does recognised files captured with v dub but then
I've got video problem as stated above.

any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks.

Try frameserving the captured file to CCE with AVISYNTH and see if you get better results - use the following script entries ..

    AVISource("your_avi_file.avi")
    AssumeFPS(25)

This should get over the frame-rate problem.
